Weasyl Usage by WinterSoul

Hey guys!

This is an announcement for just Weasyl. From here on out, this site will be rarely updated, if at all. I know some of you made the jump so that you could get away from a lot of the hassle of the bigger art sites, but with only a favorite and maybe a comment per piece, it’s just not worth it to update this site. I do still enjoy the look of the site, and some of its features (like the streaming announcements), so I’m thinking I’ll still come back every now and then to play with those. However, if you want the real art updates and to be kept in the loop about releases, please visit one of my alternate sites:

Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/WinterSoulStudios
Deviantart: https://soulofwinter.deviantart.com/
Furaffinity: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/wintersoul

Those first three are the ones which have all the big announcements and are kept up on a regular basis. Also, one of my new year’s goals is to start kick the social media, here are the ones I have so far:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WinterSoulStudios
Twitter: https://twitter.com/Wintersoul11

Once I hop onto some other sites, I’ll update the journal to let all of you know where you can find me. Hope to see ya there!

wow, stick with the bad abusive sites that will not protect your work...have fun! I guess I will unfollow you here and never see your stuff again! This site will grow and be better IF people use it and donlt just leave because "OH, I can update 5 sites, but NOT 6"! Good buy and good reidance!

      Holy friggen entitlement!
I hope you think long and hard about what you just said. WinterSoul is an incredibly kind and talented person. They have the right to choose where they do business and display their works. They are in no way shape or form obligated to share it anywhere or with anyone! ** I've seen that spew about this site going better if people used it more. Well that's a nice notion but the fact is this site just didn't take off as well as folks like WinterSoul or even myself would have liked. People can't just sit around waiting for the tomorrow that might never come because it doesn't pay bills or bring joy. They are choosing to go forward with what has worked for them while still trying to explore other possibilities of **actual potential exposure and revenue at this point.

Thank you Xetsa, you are wonderful <3 Also, exactly, on all your points!

There is absolutely nothing personal about leaving this site, it is a business decision. Extra sites, even one site, does actually take up a lot of extra energy for an artist. This is energy which can be used to make a meaningful piece for someone, or to brainstorm new ideas, or to plan a budget, or any number of things which I do as a professional artist. Quite frankly, business traffic does not come from this site, and as a human being with limited energy, I need to be aware of this and be able to make a decision to take care of myself and my business.

Which is why I don’t understand why Tristan would take this decision so personally. What did I do to you, personally? Do you not want me to take care of myself?

Tristan, respectfully, this is your loss, not mine. You are not the center of my universe, not even close. I have a pretty thick skin at this point, as the art industry is a harsh world full of rejection. My energy, time and gratitude will always be spent on clients and friends who support my work, regardless of which art site I happen to be posting on at the time. Don’t worry, I won’t take your lack of presence personally, your issue, not mine. :)

Harsh comments aside, I really do appreciate those who understand my decision and continue to cheer me on where ever I go. It is those people who keep me going in art. I would hope that you all understand that I share my art with the world because I see how it effects you in a positive way. This is about that connection, it is NOT about some petty website politics. If moving means dropping a few people who are obsessed with those politics, I’m okay with that, it’s the people who are genuinely passionate about art that I want to connect to.

That said, if Tristan had read a little more carefully, I said I would RARELY update here. No one has the right to force another human being to view one site over another, and throwing a tantrum will most definitely throw you onto my list of people I have no desire to work with. In turn, I am not asking any of you to jump over to any of the sites I listed. I am simply giving you information about how I am most easily reached. Either you take that info, or you don’t, you have free will.

Again, as I already said in my journal, I think some of the features here are really cool, and I would like to continue tinkering with them. But as a business, as someone trying to make a living and keep my head above the water just like everyone else, I have to make a decision that this needs to be a “when I have a bit of fun extra time” thing. Again, I am NOT fully leaving Weasyl, this will simply be a side site which I only check on occasion, while my other sites I will check on a daily basis.

You're welcome and I do apologize to you if I overstepped saying something but I couldn't help sticking my nose in because you have always been so kind, polite, and generous. ♥

Not at all! Actually, I'm super thankful that you posted that, there's a lot of harshness in this world and it's encouraging to know that there's someone there to back me up. <3

            • Link

Aye there is and it's rare for me to just butt in so I wanted to make sure I didn't ruffle you as well. I know sometimes good intentions are not well received if nothing but to avoid escalation. ♥

Weasyl is really dead lately, I don't blame anyone for leaving to set up shop elsewhere and increase their business. Been thinking about leaving myself to be honest, I simply don't get any business here, nor do I reach a large enough audience to wait and hope. Best of luck to you, and I'll see your work elsewhere :)

Ah, you too? See, I've been going back and forth for a long while now, and have been wondering if it's just me. Either way though, it's been a bit of a burden to try and remember to post here too, so I figure for my own mental health, it's probably better to take the pressure off of myself to check this one consistently. Best wishes to you too, hope to still see ya around!

At least you aren't using Furry Network or Furiffic, talk about dead and poorly designed sites!

    • Link

Ah, yeah, I think I heard of Furry Network, but never had a moment to drop in! Honestly, I probably would have just let those sites fall by the wayside if they ended up being a no-go. The main reason I gave a heads-up for this site is because this really does have nice design, plus I know people are hungry for something that is not the main art sites. I feel like it's just a matter of continuing to try new sites, and at some point something will be a hit!

I noticed Weasyl is pretty dead, and I don't like it either. It seems like the only real activity Weasyl gets is when FurAffinity and DeviantART pisses people off, and the influx of users is temporary. I'd love to see this site grow more, but it's an endless loop of nobody wants to come here and of the few that do, nobody wants to stay because nobody is here.

I wish you all the best! Your work is wonderful and I certainly will keep up with it where you're active.

I've noticed that too as of late, that it's very quiet. I've also noticed a shitload of bots, which has been very annoying. I think I've reported 25 now.

  • Link

boom boom, if it must be done it is done! i agree that other sites have momentum and inertia. the community effort needs to rally itself on Weasyl. frequent and involved activity is hard to design around much less encourage an already eccentric online subculture, of mostly furries.

    • Link

Indeed! Yes, agreed, that's really what I had been hoping for from the start, but it seems like it ended up being more of a "yay, shiny new thing!... (silence)." Success is a tough thing, because getting momentum is a feedback of "cool new thing to keep people's interest" and "we're a strong community." So, I don't think anyone is at fault, that's just the nature of success, try a thing and move on if it doesn't work out. Like I said though, I'd still like to make an effort to post big announcements and streaming here. I'm just seeing it more like a hobby site vs seeing it as a main business site. :)
