I really... really haven't felt like posting anything anywhere but FA and DA these days :/
I don't like it, but that seems to be the best places to socialize! I hope Weasyl takes that spot in my mind soon enough.
I prefer weasyl, but apparently everything gets 10 times more attention on fA, so the choice is pretty obvious of you want to get commissioners.
I hope it becomes a prominent focus on yours and lots of other's minds. In a positive light. It is a fantastic site, after all.
Only way to improve it, is to use it. I'm one of those silent watchers though, so i can't really say much. I'm not a people person, so leaving comments really doesn't cross my mind, so I just stick to favoriting things, or reply in response to someone else addressing myself or the things I post..
Very true, I was pretty excite about using it for several months back when there was an exodus and junk... I actually didn't post on FA at all and did most of my sharing here. But I got little traffic and I still haven't been as happy to continue posting on FA, but there's not really any alternatives I seem to feel would replace that better.
Yeah, this site is pretty quiet compared to DA and FA. I get the most activity from DA. I still post art and comment on people's art here even if I don't much attention on here and maybe the traffic will someday improve.
As quiet as it is here, I still prefer here over DA and FA because of the lack of drama >.>
And I feel that the lack of activity here does discourage people from using Weasyl, but DA and FA both seem to be going downhill in some aspects so I think more people will move to Weasyl eventually.
That's the weird thing, both of the things you said are actually not true. Both DA and FA are gaining in popularity, and maintain their popularity, weirdly enough. Drama just comes with any increase in population, in a community.
Well I don't frequent FA or DA anymore so I don't know how those places are holding up now. But last time I was active on FA it's community and ownership was rotting from the inside out and many artists jumped ship and came here (like I did) only to find Weasyl too quiet to do business here so a lot of people move back to FA or DA.
What I meant was that even though population might be booming in those places, the rest of site can fall into disarray pretty quickly; such as having bad admns, constant ads, and pay-to-use functions.. which scare a lot of artists off and those things are what kept me from moving back to those places in the first place.
And I'm sure that once those things reach a certain level many other artists will get fed up with it as well. Because despite how much traffic those sites may have, artists shouldn't have to pay for ads or to have more space in their own gallery.
I'm of the same stripes. I posted a journal on FA kind of torn between here and whatnot. Weasyl is a desolate landscape, to be sure, compared to FA.
i thought about going back recently because of the exposure but really, being exposed in a place i'm not comfortable isn't how i want to make my own art.
i wonder how we can make weasyl a more socially conducive place?
I don't know :<
I mean, maybe I have a selective memory but it seems like with other sites I've been with for over a decade... it takes a lot of drama or something really exciting (usually train-wreck type issues) to get people to notice a site and make a bunch of accounts to get it going.
I watched things go from Elfwood to DA, YGallery... I saw FA's birth and how it gained status, the other sites that tried to compete too. Seems like the timing and infamous situations have been the best things that helped in the past. But circumstances are very different now, I am not sure what the modern way would be :(
I am thankful that you put stuff here though. It's one of the only art sites that takes things like pervasive encryption and load testing seriously, so it'd be a shame for it to be underutilized just because all the frogs are in that one steaming stockpot.
Aside: Please be one of the approximately twelve people who will change their passwords once FA comes off read-only mode.

Honestly, I feel the same. DA and FA have tons of notifications in my inboxes every day from people posting new art, and granted I haven't followed many people on Weasyl, but it's just /different/ ya know. Oh well. :C
