Let's chat! :D by keirajo

Let's learn about each other, hunh? It's a new year...and we can become good friends (if we're not already!)! :D

Here's a little bit of stuff about me that maybe you know, or maybe you don't.............and maybe you'll find cool or interesting:

1) I LOVE TRANSFORMERS. I can't draw them, so maybe you don't know that. I hate that I can't draw giant robots...but I've written fan-fiction throughout much of my life since 1987, when the original t.v. series ended. I still write some occasion TF fan-fiction even today. Trust me............if I could draw giant robots, I would guarantee that the majority of my gallery would probably be Transformers fan-art...........! XD

2) My favorite genre is actually "science-fantasy"............but it's rare to find GOOD sci-fantasy books and stuff. What's "science-fantasy"? Well............in things you might be familiar with, games like "Final Fantasy XIII" would be, "Star Ocean" and "Phantasy Star Online/Universe", as well. It's usually like a science-fiction setting (futuristic, other planets) where there are fantasy elements, like dragons and magic. :) Anne McCaffrey and Christopher Stasheff are two of my favorite authors that can do sci-fantasy well. :D

3) I buy video game systems based on my want of ONE PARTICULAR GAME. I know.........silliest reason you've ever heard, right? When I was a child, my game system was an Atari 2600 (though our Commodore Vic-20 computer also had some video games on it)...so when I upgraded my gaming after getting a job in the early 1990's, I chose a Sega Genesis. It came down to the Genesis or SNES...and I chose a Genesis because their "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" game looked the coolest. XD After I got into the "Sonic" games...that kept me a fan of Sega through the years of the Dreamcast. But I became fans of other series based on having had Sega systems...because of "Mega Man X4" on the Saturn, it made me purchase a Playstation for the mere purpose of playing "Mega Man X5". My Playstation 2 was purchased because of "Mega Man X7". My ease into Nintendo systems came about due to loving "Pokemon" and the "Sonic" games winding up on many Nintendo systems. I purchased an X-Box for "Panzer Dragoon Orta"........and an X-Box360 for "Sonic the Hedgehog" (2006). Now I recently purchased a Playstation 4....................solely for the purpose of the upcoming "Persona 5"--I want this game sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo badly!!!! :o

4) Even though what you've just heard of me purchasing systems for a specific game.......that doesn't mean that those games are my favorite games of each system. I like odd games and you'll be surprised. Here are my favorite games for all the game systems I have ever owned:
Atari 2600: Joust
Sega Genesis: Sonic & Knuckles
Sega Game Gear: Sonic Blast
Sega CD: Lunar: Silver Star Story
Sega 32X: Knuckles' Chaotix
Sega Saturn: Burning Rangers
Nintendo GameBoy: Pokemon Red
Sony Playstation: Tail Concerto
Sega Dreamcast: Evolution: The World of Sacred Device
Neo*Geo Pocket: Cardfighters Clash: SNK version
Sony Playstation 2: Grandia Xtreme
Nintendo GameBoy Advance: Pokemon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire
Nintendo GameCube: Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
Nintendo DS: Bleach: The 3rd Phantom
Nintendo Wii: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Nintendo 3DS: Project X-Zone
Nintendo WiiU: Mario Kart 8
Sony Playstation 4: as of right now, "Disgaea 5"...we'll have to see if "Persona 5" shatters that! :D

5) I rarely get into "popular" things............sometimes I am into something before it is popular and it gets popular later. I had a couple of Japanese pen-pals, who were always sharing their favorite things with me...so I knew of "Bleach" and "One Piece" before VIZ brought them over here. Sometimes I don't get into things right away, either...I wasn't an instant fan of "One Piece" when Ayako-san was sharing it with me, I couldn't get a hold of pirates and comedy and stuff. It probably wasn't until it was here in the U.S. and starting to pick up interest that I got into it...I think I needed to read it in English. So........sometimes I get a bit "meh" when people are all over something and I'm not. Like "Attack on Titan"...I mean, don't get me wrong, it's okay and stuff...........but wow, I don't get how everyone is rabid about it! XD I have no idea how "Haikyuu" (I don't know if that's spelled right) or "Free!" are so popular, because the guys all look like all other anime guys to me! laughs It was the same years ago...when a lot of my pen-pal-friends were into "Gundam Wing" (love the Gundam designs, hate the humans......except Zechs Merquise! XD ) and I just kinda hated it.............."Evangelion" is the same for me, everyone was into it, but I wasn't a big fan. And right now...............................I dunno..............................."Star Wars" is everywhere. I was a fan before, maybe not a rabid fan, enjoyed the classic movies, I bought the comics from Dark Horse and I read the books (I have a Mara Jade figure...and if you don't know who she is, don't worry, Disney's made sure she no longer exists). But Disney is kinda making me dislike "Star Wars" now. For awhile...........I felt like that for "Doctor Who". I started watching it around 1987-88 in the reruns...and I was happy to hear it revived in recent times...but seeing the "mainstreaming" of it and the popularity of it being everywhere makes me a little tiny bit sad in a way. I didn't like Eccleston or Smith much, but I did like Tennant and Capaldi from the new series. :)

6) My favorite two manga series are ones that never got much play here in the U.S., so I own the full collections in Japanese. "Dragon Kishidan" by Mineko Ohkami (translated very poorly as "Dragon Knights" by TokyoPop) and "Sazan Eyes" by Yuzo Takada (a portion of this was translated by Dark Horse Comics by the Romaji title "3x3 Eyes"). My favorite anime of all time is "Project A-Ko". My favorite live-action t.v. shows were "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future" (and it deserved another season to wrap up that cliffhanger finale.........) and "Star Trek: The Next Generation"...and cartoon is obviously "Transformers", though I am also a huge "Darkwing Duck" fan! I have always been a fan of the comics "The Tick" and "Justice League". :)

Well then...............what about you guys? Tell me some interesting things about yourself. A show, movie, cartoon or anime you like? What about video games...do you have one you really like that you don't think is popular or well known? What one thing (if you are an artist) would you wish you could draw/draw better, but are not good at? Do you want to draw more variety in mediums and genres...or do you want to focus on one thing? :D

Let's chat! :D

I'm discovering that people really like panzer dragoon orta. I owned that game with my original X-box but could never beat it (I was so frustrated, but loved the game). It wasn't until my 360 that I was finally able to beat that game. Then next week they had an update that made it so I couldn't play xbox original games on that console anymore XD
One if my favorite games ever was Chrome Hounds. A slow, thoughtful, and powerful war mech. As they would be designed if they were real. I had so much fun designing my mech for the different single player missions and even challenged myself to use ones that weren't designed for them at all haha. Sadly, the online servers were taken down WAY before I ever owned it. And it was not an old game at the time, either. Still, it holds a place in my heart. Other titles that I really enjoy are ones that keep their tone really well. Majoras mask is a good example of that. But one that hit me right in the feels that wasn't that popular is "To The Moon".
As an artist, there are a ton of things I wish I could do better. Armor and weapons, animations, digital painting, watercolor, and much much more. I'm my own worst critic. But I am currently working on a style that I may call my own. I'm having a ton of fun, and I feel like I understand it quite well. I'll see where it goes first :)
Hey, if you like science fantasy stuff, you should look into Warhammer 40k if you don't know about it. Super marines in space fighting in Victorian style spaceships. Fighting Elder (space elves), Orks, and robot mummies from the past (necron) just to name a few ;)
They take their lore super seriously too. Farrrrr too many books! It's pretty much my main hobby.

"Panzer Dragoon Saga" is one of the most wanted games on many a hardcore gamers' list...it's hard to find and can go for a hefty price tag if it's in good condition. At the end of the life of the Saturn...5 games came out in very limited quantities and this was one of them. I played the other "Panzer Dragoon" games (because..............dragons! XD), though I'm not a fan of shooters, I really got into this series. "Saga" was amazing...took the shooter and made it RPG--it was long and intense to play it, with an amazing emotional reward at the end. The company broke up after that...so hearing of "Orta" was a pleasant surprise to fans of the series. It went back to the shooter roots, added a few elements from "Saga" (RPG elements)...and turned out to be more amazing than fans expected it to be. :D

I think armour and weapons fall in that line with robots. I'm not good with 3-D shapes.........so boxes are incredibly difficult for me to do. It's funny, because everyone told me geometry would be so easy in school--and it was my worst subject next to calculus. As an artist, shapes should NOT give me this much trouble...but 3-D, geometric shapes are my bane. XD I shall still struggle in trying to draw giant robots...but I doubt I'll get better at it! laughs

I've heard of the "Warhammer" series, it's like Dungeons & Dragons, right? :)

      • Link

The Dragoon series as a whole are a (currently) dead genre called "on rail shooter." Literally the last title in the genre was Crimson Dragon on the Xbox one which is made by the same group as the Dragoon series. And that came out with the console itself!

The company has two series. Warhammer and Warhammer 40k. The former is inspired by D&D. But it's a tabletop war game, not a pen and paper RPG. The latter is a similar world, but set in the year 40,000 not pre-human fantasy. So you get a bit of overlap with the themes, but SPACE! While the game itself is a tabletop wargame, people are fans for different reasons. Some only like to play the game, others just paint and collect the models. Then some just read the books or enjoy the artwork. And for those that hate the idea of a tabletop war game, they have a collection of videogame in a ton of genres (most are pretty bad XD), and even a pen and paper version too! There is a little for any style of fan haha.

        • Link

Yeah...some of the staff (Team Andromeda) that were on the original Saturn-era "Panzer Dragoon" games formed a new company, that's the one that did "Orta". I remember when "Orta" came out...the remaining Team Andromeda members on that team said that this game was a tribute to their former team and the former games (as it had gone back to its rail-shooter roots). They had also said it really WAS going to be the last "Panzer Dragoon" game, ever, too.................! chuckle I never knew they had done a newer game though! :o I doubt I'll ever get an X-BoxONE, no matter what comes out for it that I really want. I have heard that the XB1 needs to have constant internet connectivity, so in my internet-free household, a system like that is dead-on-arrival. XD

I didn't realize there was a difference between the two Warhammer series...thanks for explaining it! :D

          • Link

Xbone has a terrific history of not staying true to what they say. ORIGINALLY you did need constant connection. Now, it doesn't need it at all. Sure, it may gripe a little, but it can survive not being connected. That being said, it's not a great system and it's super expensive :(
And I actually have beaten Crimson Dragon. You aren't going to be missing much. It wasn't nearly as good at Orta! But it had a similar charm to it. Not worth the console, though X3

            • Link

Then unless there's a super-awesome game I NEED.............I'll skip Microsoft's new system for now! XD I remember hearing about the Internet thing and I was like...............yeah, I'll never have that system. Looks like Microsoft backed away a lot from what they wanted their XB1 to be like (software free.......remember when they tried doing that???? lol), I kinda tuned out when I heard "software free" and decided it wasn't worth listening to any other news about it, though I remember how much backlash they had when they announced that and I felt sure Microsoft would die when XB1 launched--yet they're still here. chuckle

I do remember having a passing interest in "Titanfall", after seeing the commercials when the XB1 launched...but if I'm not mistaken, there's a 360 version of it too, right? :) One day, if I find it, I might get the 360 version.

              • Link

Xboxone is really far behind in console sales compared to the WiiU and PS4. Sadly, if they actually stayed true to what they initially said, they might be doing a lot better!

If you don't do the while internet thing, then DO NOT pick up Titanfall. It's an only-online FPS. It's really nice towards people that don't play that genre a lot with a ton of AI along with the actual players. But it's entire story mode is in the form of online matches. If it is on 360, then I would avoid it if I were you :(

                • Link

That's almost a little sad, "Titanfall" looked so cool though...............I guess if I want giant robot games, I'll stick with the "Transformers" ones (I STILL need to play "Rise of the Dark Spark") or "Gundam" series ones! XD

I blame the spike in WiiU sales solely to "Super Smash Bros 4"...............and all the DLC characters (from other game series NOT Nintendo games) and content! laughs Until Smash, WiiU sales were mediochre. Admittedly...I love "Mario Kart 8" a tiny bit more than SSB4 (though I like it too), they've come so far with making the A.I. much more balanced. Now when the computer characters fall off the track, it takes them a small amount of time to recover...just like you! XD

                  • Link

I second that about the WiiU. It really wasn't doing well until Smash Bros came out. I think it's ahead of the Xbone now haha. I remember my roomate at the time was super into the game (we all chipped in to get the console) and he picked up an amibo. He ended up training it to be better than him! It was hilarious to see how frustrated to see this piece of plastic HE TRAINED beat him constantly!

And if you are still intersted in robot games, Robotech made an Xbox original game. I would look for something on that game and see if it would be interesting to ya. I played it when I was a kid (only 20) and it was so tough for me to beat at the time that I gave up XD

                    • Link

Would that be "Robotech:Battlecry"? Yep! I got it for the B-Box! :D It's an awesome game!

I just started training a Lucario Amiibo...and Kilo was right when she told me it learns bad habits. I tend to spam Force Palm A LOT...my Lucario Amiibo now uses Force Palm A LOT! XD

                      • Link

Can you imagine the Lucario talking about its fighting habits?
"I LEARNED IT FROM YOU, MOM!!!"

                        • Link

                          That poor Lucario! XD

  • Link

I'm not much of a gamer, so I bought systems so I could play one game xD I was really into DDR in middle school so I got a PS2 (I think) and I was into Rock Band at the end of high school so my brother gave me his old XBox. I've played some other games on the XBox since then and enjoy it. I mostly got a DS for Pokémon and played a couple GBA games on it. Then I got a 3DS so I could play the newer Pokémon games on it. That's pretty much my history of gaming haha, I'm bad at skill-based games (besides rhythm games) so I don't play much else.

And about me, I don't have much to say, I'm pretty boring. I'm really into MLP and I also like Pokémon, Disney, and Warriors (the book series about cats). I've seen a ton of TV shows as well, too many to list.

I wish I could draw everything better. I feel like I'm not a good artist even though I've been drawing my whole life so I feel like I should be better at this point, I'm 22. I want to get better at shading and making things colorful and cool. I feel like my art is too simplistic. Sorry to complain!

    • Link

You know...I used to be really awesome at platformers (Mario, Sonic...those kinds), but either platformers have become ridiculously difficult or I can't play them as well anymore! XD I've still never been able to complete "Sonic the Hedgehog" (2006) and have been stuck on the Kingdom-somethingorother level FOREVER. headdesk But I think as long as you have fun playing the games you like, that's all that really matters! :D

"The Warriors" books are still so crazy-popular at the Library I work at. They're ALWAYS being checked out and stuff. Now the author has done two side series, one about bears (The Seekers) and one about dogs (The Survivors). :)

As long as you want to draw and you don't let haters make you hate your art, then just keep drawing and you'll keep getting better! <3

      • Link

I've read some of the Seekers and Survivors books, but I much prefer Warriors. Glad it's still popular, I just wish it were popular enough to make an animated movie of it...

Thanks for the advice, I'll still keep drawing!

        • Link

Maybe one day..."Guardians of Ga'Hoole" was made into a movie! :D

          You're welcome! :)

  • Link

I also love Transformers--if I could draw one thing better, it would be them! For some reason, I have a hard time getting the knack of it. I'm a big believer in "practice makes perfect" so I keep at it...even though the results are scary lol.

Darkwing Duck is also awesome...haven't seen that show in forever, but it was definitely quality.

One thing that I wish was better known--there's an anime called Heat Guy J I like, that has almost no fandom )':

    • Link

Yeah..............you should see my poor robots. And Transformers have become more complex and complicated in their design. I used to be able to draw the original Hot Rod/Rodimus Prime pretty decently.........but his redesign in the modern comic books is too complicated for me to even try! XD

Boom! Comics did a really fabulous "Darkwing Duck" comic a few years back.............it's only sad that Disney made them cancel it, because they had planned to move all their Disney comics under the Marvel line when they bought Marvel. (That never worked out...now Disney has offer out the rights to other comic companies again.............)

I've heard of "Heat Guy J", but I've never seen it! I'll see if I can look that up sometime! :D

  • Link

I remember you did one of these on The Art Site That Shall Not Be Named where I mentioned He-Man as one of my childhood favorites. There was also Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles '87, a lot of the Disney Afternoon and Silver Age WB Animation lineup, Hanna-Barbera re-runs, old cartoon shorts, and later on, Cartoon Cartoons, and so on. Almost everything everyone remembers in the 90s -not necessarily "from"-, with some exceptions.

My favorite video game of all time wil always be Konami's version of The Simpsons. XP

    • Link

Yeah...............I like to find out what people are into. Sometimes I find new things! :D

I think I remember that game of "The Simpsons"! I never played it, but I remember it being a big deal when it came out! :)

  • Link

    I like games :D

    • Link

I would never have guessed that! XD

      • Link

That's all the insightful info I've got xD

        • Link

Do you have a favorite game that maybe most people haven't heard of? :)

          • Link

I have played some obscure games, but none I'd consider a fave....I really liked Glory of Heracles, though (DS).
I've yet to encounter someone who's played this game xD

            • Link

My RPG-fanatic friend Michelle bought it, but I don't know if she ever played it. A couple times I've seen it for $5 at the resale shop and have thought of getting it, though. :)

              • Link

                Just $5? That's a good buy right there :o

                • Link

Maybe next time I'll get it! :)

  • Link

waaait wait waaaaait! You had a atary WHEN YOU WAS A KID? how old are you?! O____O
    (Oh,and when i was a kid i watched a Transformers tv-show,and i loved it...but,meh,it was a looong time ago,in other time and another place X'D)

    • Link

      I'm 41! :) I know I don't seem like it...but I like to feel young instead of being a stuffy middle-aged adult! laughs

So! Yep, I was a kid in the glorious 1980s...so I got to see all the awesome cartoons they make remakes of today! XD

      • Link

O_______O -gives you a ribbon- Now you're one of my favourites watchers
And yep,i think that you was younger

        • Link

          D'awwwww...thanks! :D

          • Link

            You're wellcome -W-

  • Link

    Science Fantasy ?

    ....

    ahem

    PLAY

    SMT STRANGE JOURNEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :U

It's the perfect blend of sci-fi and supernatural demon busting. The sci-fi elements don't overwhelm the fantasy elements and vice versa !

The story itself is amazing and makes you think about the society we live in, and it has a great OST ! o3o

    • Link

What system was that on? I know the Shin Megami Tensei series can be hard to find (especially the older PS2 ones). I've never played any of the originals, but I've played their spin-off series on the handhelds...and now the Persona series is considered part of SMT. :)

I played "Overclocked" on the 3DS and chose the end run where you made the main character the ruler of hell...and it was sad to see the female characters all abandoned him in that decision (only the guys stood with him! XD ).

      • Link

        It's on the DS !

And Strange Journey happens to be part of the main line of the SMT games o3o

        • Link

I'll have to look into it! Thanks! :D

  • Link

Drawing giant robots is very difficult indeed. I wish I could draw them too.

Science fantasy is cool, you really don't see enough of it.

That's the reason I have a PSP, got it for Kingdom Hearts. XD

    That's a lot of Nintendo systems. :3

    Let's see, for me it's:
    NES: The Legend of Zelda
    Nintendo GameBoy Advance: Pokemon Emerald
    Nintendo GameCube: Pokemon XD
    Nintendo DS: TWEWY
Nintendo 3DS: Animal Crossing New Leaf
Playstation: Spyro: Year of the Dragon
    Playstation 2: Kingdom Hearts

I don't get Free! either, and I've tried reading attack on titan but I've found that it drags. :/

    Hooray for Star Trek!

    • Link

If only drawing robots were somehow easier! cries

I'm trying to remember why I bought a PSP (I forgot to list that I have one! It's such a forgettable system for me! XD), it may have been for "Sonic Rivals". :)

I had to think for a few moments on your DS one.............that's "The World Ends With You", right? I heard tons of great stuff about that game..............but it was always sold out everywhere around here, so I never had a chance to get it. chuckle

Yeah...I read the "Attack on Titan" manga, because the Library gets the new volumes when they come out in English. But it's so slow to get where its going. The anime....................is a bit too bloody for me, I can't watch very much of it at one time. I think that kinda stops me from enjoying it in any way. The manga has bloody scenes, but it's easier to move the eye past them quickly. :/

      Yay "Star Trek"! :D

      • Link

        Curse you robots!

        XD

Yes, it's a really good game, though if you've played the 3DS Kingdom Hearts game it spoils the whole thing. XD

The manga starts slow, gets decent then gets slow again. :/

        • Link

          Derned robots! XD

I played the 3DS "Dream Drop Distance" game......oh so long ago now! lol I couldn't help but think that poor Riku had become Ash...since he was kinda raising monsters for his allies! XD

I just want to find out how the Titans came into existence. Answer that...manga! chuckle They are kinda getting to it with volumes 15-16, though. :)

          • Link

Riku as a pokemon trainer XD.

I don't think I've gotten that far in the manga.

            • Link

They're starting to get to the background of the Titans in volume 16. Just starting to. :)

Riku would probably make a good Pokemon Trainer! XD

              • Link

He'd be good with the dark type. XD

                • Link

                  I bet he would! :D
