Auction has ended, congrats to Zebra, who is the lucky new owner of Kai & Anisim!

This month we have something a little different. Between Valentine's Day coming up and the Shisa ornaments naturally lending themselves to couples, I wanted to do something which would work well with the theme of mates or couples. So, the winner of this auction gets not only one, but two characters! To add, I also finally finished the second lines for the Shisa character sheets, as seen with Kai's lines.

Just for a bit of background on these special auctions, as I make my pendants and figurines, to me these are more than just casts. Being hand painted, every design is a unique piece of art, and has felt like the pendant is imbued with a bit of the essence of that individual character. As I create these characters, and as I paint the ornament, the story of the character is just as important as the colors and markings, and is consciously kept in mind throughout the painting process. To push the idea further of each one of these pendants being their own personality, I've decided to introduce these limited character auctions! On top of the Shisa already being limited edition, these particular paint jobs will never show up again on another Shisa ornament. You'll be adopting your very own mini guardian lion-dog, and be able to physically hold your new character! I would like to hold these once every one to two months, so again, these will be a rare treat I hope all of you enjoy. :)

Character Background:
Have you ever peered into thick, overgrown brush, and felt the dark pathways, shaped from branch and root, drawing you in? Well, the edge of this strange forested place is where our story begins. Many family groups of wild Shisa live just on the edge of the spirit world, and Kai's family is no exception. The fact is, slipping between realms is the easiest way to avoid capture. Of course, the other side presents just as many unique dangers, so creatures that live on the edge develop sensitivity to the spirit world in their physical form, simply out of survival. Since she was a cub, Kai's family had depended on her mother to guide them in these survival skills, but her mother had passed on. It only took one wrong step into a hunter's trap... Now it's Kai's turn to lead. Although she is as skilled as her mother in her ability to sense shifts in energy, Kai always had trouble with anxiety. The loss of her mother exaggerated her shy, quiet temperament. How can someone lead if they can't even socialize with the group they're leading?

The answer to her lack of courage came crashing through the brush in the form of Anisim, an escaped Shisa from the royal courts further west. Though born into domestication, Anisim was never cut out for a life of palace walls and daily routine. However, the price of freedom can be high for a Shisa like Anisim. You see, these creatures are rare and expensive to breed. And if their personality does not conform to domestic life? In some places, it's more cost effective to throw them to the streets and let them fend for themselves, but that's not the case for Anisim's home town. Where he comes from, headstrong personalities are much more profitable as pelts. Why let that luxurious fur go to waste? For Anisim, how could he afford not to escape?

This fateful first encounter is just the beginning of Anisim and Kai's story. What dangers does Anisim's presence bring to Kai's family? How could Anisim possibly escape his pursuers? Though on the outside it seems like their personalities and histories couldn't be any more different, their fates intertwine...

I think it's a great idea to combine the character descriptions with the charm. :)
