So, I had this total urge to draw a shark. It happens sometimes. I'm addicted to sharks as most of you are aware. Anyway, in a rather large project I'm working on, this guy makes an appearance. He's a normal "grunt" soldier in the Reefkin militia, and I rather wanted to draw out the concept of what a Reefkin warrior would look like.

Obviously, being a shark (as sharks are devious and sneaky), they should be able to travel quickly and lightly, so light armor was an obvious choice as well as something that wouldn't inhibit swimming abilities all that much. The Reefkin are fabulous at ocean/ water based espionage, able to infiltrate undetected below the water's surface. They are also fabulous at sabotage in the naval fleets in that they are able to swim beneath ships and put holes in the hulls of them. Handy trick certainly.

The Reefkin are somewhat based on ancient Roman culture and militia, being excellent spearmen as well as close range soldiers in a tight knit phalanx. This talent is derived from being primarily a trader population, specializing in the sale and harvest of fish, crab, lobster and rare underwater crystals and gems.

The Reefkin are a peaceful people, however, have been locked in a mortal, never ending battle with Merpeople for countless centuries, and are very distrusting of dolphins, often at territorial wars with both for control of parts of the ocean and reefs where the fish are the most abundant.

The Reefkin vary greatly in size, shape, and subspecies of shark. Depicted here is Serpatio Arkatas, a Tiger Shark warrior who is aspiring and well on his way to becoming a general.
