What happened to Soho?

TheShaggyDragon

Hey folks!

I've been wanting to draw a full on city for a while and i figured with the winter here in force i would add some snow (lord knows there is too much of it over here in Idaho by the way i am back in Idaho)

So I decided to go to New York as no doubt in the dragonscape at this time of the year snow will be ruling the city, i decided to do a lot of visual referencing of Soho street as that seems like an interesting road for me with a lot of history. Here there are a couple of travelers headed through the city, I was gonna add some wild dogs in as well be i think it might be too cold for that.

Generally i feel cities would be mostly abandoned in the DragonScape for about two reasons not related to weather
!) You can't really set up a complex society in a ruined city, the amount of farming needed to sustain any group larger than 20 might require more farmable land than these concrete jungles can reliably provide.
2) its hard to live in the skyscrapers as its been at least 30 years if not 45+ so the structural integrity of these buildings is risky at best, and its just simpler to find smaller, easier buildings to repair than to try and retake a 40 story sky scraper.

This isn't to say cities are completely abandoned though! Drekir Scavengers frequent cities to take PVC, Metal scraps, and other valuable materials from the ruined and collapsing buildings and underground utilities. cities are often also hiding spots for known criminals and bandits as drekir aren't keen on chasing people into a city on the risk of getting lost. Lastly they can provide a safe passage from sivilao caste dragons as the Sivilao (especially the lower castes) are thoroughly spooked by the ruins of human cities, considering them cursed, haunted, or otherwise disturbing places to be in.
Additionally small groups of drekir can make a permanent life in a city, for an example in new york there might be a small village at Central park, same goes with other sizable parks that have a chance of being farm able.

In the case of New York though the city can see infiltration by the radical cultists of GoDomer's Ascendants and small fights and battles occasionally will break out amongst the giant concrete skeletons of New York City.
I think this is a pretty good picture overall! Was a pain to work out colors and snow but i think its ok, again i did want to add some dogs but went against that due to it being probably frigidly cold. also from what i understand with modern abandoned cities animals rarely go back to the concrete jungles of dense city ruins, at least not for a long LONG period of time.
Shaggy out!
