When the Empire democratized following the discovery of FTL, it was decided that a new flag would be needed to represent this shift to a new way of thinking while, at the emperor's insistence, acknowledging the past. The final design resued the royal colors but inverted. The crown jewels motif was kept but made yellow. The two yellow stripes have their meaning: the smaller representative of the past, and the larger the future is bisected by a small green bar indicative of change.
