it's been nagging at the back of my head for at least a month, but now I see classic 70's Paul Williams here.

Bingo, Mockingbird's design has been quite inspired by Paul Williams, his portrayal of the character Swan in the film Phantom of the Paradise in particular.

Phantom of the Paradise is such a marvelously surreal film. I got to see it back in the 80s on MTV late night once. There was a touching comment by Williams about how he'd originally considered the film a bit of a career let-down, but apparently one of the film's inspired fans was Guillermo del Toro, who went on to make Pan’s Labyrinth.
