"Break Time" WiP 2: First Trace

Sparkyopteryx

1st Page

A lot sparser than that sketch, huh? This step shows the freshly traced lines on the tracing paper that I transferred from the initial sketch above. This stage must be pretty bare bones to keep it easy to see and as uncluttered as possible, which means I only shade and detail the most important lines and areas and leave the fiddling and nitpicking for the actual finished product. This explains why parts of it, say most of his physique, lines on the wall and the pinstripes on his pants "pop" more; much of this will be de-emphasized when I transfer to the final paper to start shading and coloring. It was around when I started tracing that I found an error in regards to the height of the pool table; comparatively to the perspective of the room and Foley (who is 6'2'') it should be a little lower to the ground, so I'll be cheating a little bit by transferring the table separately and shifting it a little lower on the page. Also, why purple? Dunno, but it is easy on the eyes and (hopefully) will be easy enough to see when I start to trace it yet again to the other paper.

Edit: Oh sonofabitch I noticed the far wall is bent-looking in the middle. That's alright; I'll tweak the lines on the bottom floor threshold to fix it, since I'm pretty sure that's where the problem is coming from primarily.

Next steps: Trace over graphite onto final paper. Then comes the coloring.
