The poor lad had a terrible bone cancer that was twisting his body and coating him in painful bony growths. He sought out an arcane remedy to his plight, and the Fae that healed him did manage to cure him... However the horns around his face, where the spell was cast, is still alive with the mending residue of powerful magics, his horns and plated scales constantly reforming, compounding in to one another, and sinking back in to his flesh. It’s a slow process that can’t really be observed with the naked eye, but it still makes for a very dramatic looking crowding of growth.
