The Moonweaver Chronicles Part 9

I didn't really remember many of the events that lead to me being in the comfortable bed. I remember a naga woman, I had been laying against her. Several things caught my eye as I looked around. There was a nest of eggs, I recalled laying them. The room was the one I had gone to bed in. Suddenly I realized that there was food near the bed. I got up and ate what tasted like a rabbit sandwich.

The naga came in at that moment, I wondered vaguely if she had heard me. Though she didn't appear to have ears. "My name is Rin, by the way, I suppose I forgot to tell you that."

"I'm Alkain" I told her quickly, introducing myself.

"Yeah, I know, I was told about that" Her tail curled, probably unconsciously, as if she was nervous and she then asked, "Did you like the sandwich?"

"Its delicious." I told her, finishing it quickly and even burping. She took it as a compliment. She collected up the plate and I followed her to the kitchen. I suspected the eggs were safe enough without us having to watch them and there appeared to be a heating enchantment on the nest to keep them appropriately warm. Rin was quite thorough it seemed, I couldn't have been asleep for that long, we had both gone to sleep together I think yet she had accomplished all of this before I woke up. She was indeed something else.

She put the plate into something that was clearly a sink, I took the moment to examine my lover who had apparently changed since I had last seen her. She was larger and longer and her scales were pitch black. Her eye color was the only thing not so and appeared to be a deep shade of crimson. Her body was decorated with various symbols and inscriptions that all seemed to glow either red, white, blue, teal or brown.

"I see you noticed my appearance," she said with a slight note of remorse. "I forgot to change back, most people don't exactly appreciate the way I look, I'm not really demonic like you, I was just born this way. I gave up on people ever really treating me normally and you don't need to pull any punches."

I smiled and put a hand on her shoulder, "I'm part demon you know, I could sense you aren't like me in that regard, but I think you're pretty beautiful. Especially your eyes, if the eyes are the window to the soul then your soul must be brimming with love." I told her, rather cheesily.

Her expression lit up and she squeezed me tightly, a bit tighter than most could take but I could bear it for a while, I understood how it felt to be looked down upon and refused to do that to her. Plus, she really was quite beautiful and amazing, definitely the kind of person worth getting to know.

After a few moments, we broke away, she seemed nervous and began to update me. "According to what I've heard, your friends have been doing the job you initially said you'd do. They must have quite a bit of stamina to manage as much sex as they've apparently had." I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of it all.

"That brings me to a question. Would you mind spending more time with me? I've been given a job to clear the nearby woods of some intruders. They always seem to give me dangerous jobs and I would really appreciate if you helped me. I'm often lucky to come back alive and rarely have anybody to go with."

"Of course I'll come." I told her, "Just lead the way."

It turns out, our current residence was close to the edge of this place and the forest was very near. I wondered if it was fortunate or whether they wanted to keep her as far as they could away from the normals. She had taken a small book with her, it seemed roughly 100 pages thick, not counting front and back as separate pages, it didn't seem to weigh a thing to her and she carried it like it was a sacred heirloom. It emanated very little magical power though and I had to wonder why she would carry it at a time like this.

The forest was filled with trees covered in the most beautiful pink leaves. They were gorgeous and had a wonderful fragrance, its kind of a shame that we were here to kill and not on a date. Maybe it was a date and the killing was just some strange form of foreplay. I thought about all kinds of kinky thoughts until I heard a rather loud and unceremonious thud behind me.

"You really should keep an eye out, there is a large group of bandits who rob the people passing through and poach much of the wildlife. That guy would have scored a point on you with his weapon. People here fear demons and demon slaying weapons are pretty common place. They're not as effective on non-demon but these people have lively modified their weapons to bypass the enchantments that act as limiters."

I nodded mutely, taking it all in. It was relieving that I mostly only had to worry about strong creatures that I could sense. The concept that these creatures wielded weapons that I am fundamentally weak to though and will be far harder to detect. That they would send Rin after these creatures, wielding such specialized weaponry, vaguely suggests that they are trying to get her killed. Its so sad that she still trusted them, I will have to find some way to get her away from these people.

Rin held her arm out to bar my progress and with a serious look on her that sent shivers up and down my spine, told me... "We have been surrounded."

I looked around us and focused. She was right, they had us completely surrounded and my heart sunk to realize that if we weren't very careful, neither of us would be escaping this encounter alive.
