Ashley "Magpie" Waylett by Shadderstag

Ashley "Magpie" Waylett

Shadderstag

I have been working on this off and on since mid-January and I'm so glad to finally be able to share him with the internet haha. This is an OC for a DC AU RP that me and Spartadog play.

His name is Ashley Waylett and yes, he is a fourteen year old boy in a dress. But it's not a girl's dress, as he will very loudly proclaim, it's his dress, and he's a boy, so therefore it's a boy's dress. He wears what he likes and he just so happens to like feminine clothing. He looks up to the sex workers of Gotham (his mother was a prostitute and her friends practically raised him when she died) and women are his role models.

Yet somehow he ends up being adopted (not legally, mind) by Jason Todd and Ian Savage (Sparta's OC), who are a lot confused by Ashley and worried about his life choices. By the time he is sixteen or seventeen he's more than comfortable with who he is and continues to wear what he likes. It's with great surprise that his new "dads" walk in on him with a girl from his school, as they sort of just assumed he was gay (actually they thought that perhaps he was trans but they asked and he was pretty adamant that no, he definitely identified as male). Turns out he's quite the ladies man and finds it rather convenient that he can share clothes with his girlfriends. None of his relationships last overly long but he's not looking to get serious anyways. He's a teenager, he just wants to have fun! Of course, due to how he dresses he has to deal with bullying and the like, so Jason teaches him self defense.

When he was on the streets he stole to survive, and he never really stopped even when it was no longer necessary. Despite Jason and Ian having money enough to spare for him to spend on his rather expensive taste in clothing and accessories, Ashley has always been an independent kind of guy. He also maybe looks up to the idea of Catwoman a little too much, and ends up becoming a "master" thief himself. He enrolls himself in Wing Chun courses, and becomes rather adept at it, taking a liking to the butterfly swords especially. The angle they're drawn at here makes them look much less impressive than they really are.

As for his new identity, well, it was really a no brainer for him. He's idolized women his entire life, and really, who would ever suspect that he was the curvy, sultry woman stealing from rich Gothamites? He took voice lessons, got some of the trans ladies and drag queens he knew from the streets to help him with the padding and tucking, covered everything but his hair and ears, and made sure to temporarily color his hair whenever he went out. The costume is mostly modified military stealth armor, privately commissioned, and allows for ease of movement as well as protection.

And thus Magpie became the next Catwoman (minus the tendency to only steal cat-related things), and Ashley lived a double life just like the rest of his family. It's going to be hilarious when they realize he's Magpie and Magpie is him, and will probably lead to more "Are you sure you don't identify as a woman???".

I'll be putting this up in the Characters section with a more detailed backstory later but eeeee lookit my baby! I love him so much!
