Like no one ever was, anyway...

I fell down the black hole of Nuzlocke challenge comics and started thinking, as I often do, which Pokemon I'd have if I could have one or more as pets/friends/cockfighters/whatever. Then I was like "I should draw me with my imaginary team, which 6 would I choose if I could choose between the entire pool of available 'mon from the first game to now?"

I went by usefulness (like I needed a water, a fire, a flyer, and one I could ride), and just kinda how much I liked them/ how cute they were, and how much fun I think it would be to have their personalities together if I was going to make up stories about our adventures as a team. The 6th, who you do not see here, is a Celebi, who, I decided, actually chose us rather than the other way around, and had her own reasons for picking our team to chill with (which she doesn't disclose), and she comes and goes as she pleases.

We have:
Blaze- the Fletchling. She's a bit anxious. Okay, she's a LOT anxious. But she'll fight if she has to, or if you corner her.
Moonbear- the Teddiursa. Has a good sense of smell and is very curious and observant. She's the responsible one of the group. Someone has to be!
Fernando- the Tauros. An easygoing jocky kind of creature, quite brave and also somewhat of a romantic. Protective and always ready to stand up for the little guy.
Frogdor- the Poliwag. Quick to temper, but somehow likable anyway, has a razor wit to go with his sharp mind. He'll razz his friends, but heaven help you if YOU do.
Bogey- the Gastly. His likes include mischief, scaring anyone available, and not taking life too seriously.

Mae- the Celebi (not pictured here). She's mysterious and flighty and seems to have some kind of hidden agenda that the team can only hope is benevolent. She travels through time and pops up now and then to help or guide the gang- or lead them on a wild goose chase, whichever. Somehow managed to steal her own Pokeball so that she could move about as she pleased while still being linked to the team, which is why we only travel with 5. We can't figure out what it is she needs from us, or gets out of finding us whenever she likes, but when she's available she tends to be pretty helpful as often as not so it works out in the end.

The critters came out pretty cute (I've read somewhere they made them deliberately simplistic so it would be easier for young fans to have fun drawing them, not sure how true that is), but I'm still trying to up my humanoid game and not doing very well. I wanted the person character to look stylized and very silly with an exaggerated expression but still, y'know, like they had actual human anatomy... there's a few places I was just not pleased with that I couldn't get right so in the end I gave up. Wouldn't mind some polite crit with tips for my next attempt, or even redlines. When you're already shaky on the underlying structure it's a real challenge to draw fat characters!
