"SHOT!" Is the battle cry of NARFA (Northwest Arkansas Regional Furry Association) and tradition of toasting at our gatherings called Beatings (Long Story). We even have our own shot glasses (which were used as the subject of this piece), and all tested and true members get one (even if they don't drink, its not a requirement). I had been meaning to do this one for months, and finally made my self sit down a do it yesterday as a confidence building/still life exercise. Had to work fast as I was racing the natural light that was fading fast (as much as I like the darkness and peace of night, "Hail Luna!", the sun sets to damn early). So I had about 2 hours to work this once the canvas prep was complete. It ended up taking 2.5 hours to finish.

Additionally, a good portion of this piece was actually painted with my fingers (mostly the whiskey and the shadows), then detailed with a brush. Also, tried out a new type of Canvas Board with a smoother tooth, and man its almost perfect; just toothy enough to grab paint, and still smooth enough for the fine details I obsess over. Plus I used a grey background (I usually use a Raw Sienna or Ocher canvas tone), and used very thin paint. The whole thing was an experiment; that is the great thing about these quick and dirty still lifes I can try new things and push the thresholds with out worry of ruining a commissioned piece.

Finally, all the paint used in this was left overs from the previous painting (even the gray background), so other then the canvas board this one cost me NOTHING to paint. So, in that I am proud of this one.
