A sort of... reference or model sheet (it's not really full of detail) for my random character Dale.
I know lots of people make piñata characters, but I hope mine turned out unique enough. He's a lot of things I like.

His creation.... well I really like piñatas. I used to have a few I kept (not to break), but I think they got damaged anyway- papermache is easily damaged. A band I like had an album with one on it, aswell as the drummer's bass cover. Aside from that, I was mainly influenced by the old Xbox game "Viva Piñata"... which also had an OK cartoon (I haven't seen it years). I really love that game and still play it, it has really great art direction: what I mean is that not just the characters, but the plants, trees, rocks, and even grass has a pattern to it. I remember an interview with the lead artist said he wanted it to look "hand-made" which he did very well- it's become one of my favorite games to play just for visuals. It's still not very well known I think... it was made after the game studio Rare was bought by microsoft, so I think many people didn't give it a chance since it wasn't Nintendo- or because this also came out around the same time as much more realistic FPS games, like Halo so... I don't know who was playing this on Xbox, but that era had a surprising amount of stylized games that nobody played. But that is only my theory. It's a forgotten franchise now, but it also had a good sequel. It refined lots of gameplay mechanics and added more cool animals... I can only imagine if we lived in a world where we got a third game... a lot of potential.

Okay, that's just a lot of history. Here's the character.
His name is Dale (said like dah-lay, I guess). It's a Spanish word(s), it's a contraction of "da le" which very literally means "give it". But it's kind of a loose translation really, it can mean a few things, but there's a song (it's not an official song, the kind you sing like happy birthday) about hitting a piñata and those are the beginning lyrics- so that's why it's his name. He's not connected to any story I wrote, but he has a personality. He's friendly, but still shy when it comes to others. Because of this, he tries really hard to seem cool and funny but nobody thinks he is. Oh, and he's a donkey. That's all I got right now.

He's very cute! I never played Viva Pinata, but after I got my 360, I wanted to. I think I got my box a bit too late, cos at that point, it wasn't being sold anymore.

I forgot I wanted to comment after I faved, but Oooh PIÑATA
I have only one memory of Viva Piñata, which is one episode I watched so very long ago, where a badger piñata was sick and was only spawning vegetables instead of candy, and like he went to a therapist about it to get it sorted out. I really wanna watch/play it someday, for I have a soft spot for piñata characters.

And that's a great design here. Not sure when I'd be able to do this, but could I draw him with my piñata Sgnarly sometime?

Oh man not even I know if I remember that one episode. The badgers are called badgesicle's though. I definitely played the games a lot more than I watched the cartoon, but it's so hard to find the cartoon now. Not sure what network owns it now...

And thank you so much. I'm glad you like my designs, you definitely can draw him with yours if you would like to!
