17th Century Pirate Ship Design by Red Dragonette

17th Century Pirate Ship Design

Red Dragonette

This was at the pirate section of Gumbalimba Park's museum. I didn't get all of the exhibits, so you'll have to see the rest yourself at the Gumbalimba Park in Roatán, Honduras. Anyway, the top left picture is the whole exhibit and the rest are just closeup parts of it. The top right says:

"Merchantman ships were often captured and fitted with cannons by pirates in order to make them battle-ready."

The bottom left picture is the list of design parts of the ship. I got a closeup of a few numbered parts, but I think you guys can deduce the numbers' whereabouts on the top-left pic. If not, go to Gumbalimba Park to see the thing yourself. Anyway, here's the numbered list.

1. Gallery of the Captain's Cabin
2. Battle Cannons
3. Mainsail
4. Oars for Moving in Calm Waters
5. Top for Rifle Fire
6. Bow Spirit
7. Storeroom for Ship's Equipment
8. Barrels of Provisions
9. Replacement Sail

The bottom right picture says:

"The falcon design cannon was crafted in the late 15th century and was discovered off the coast the neighboring island of Guanaja. The buccaneer (pirate) ships in the mid 17th century used them to overpower, capture and sometimes sink other vessels. It uses 0.5 LB of gunpowder and has a range of 5,000 pt."
