Commissioned music for Exevalon on dA. This is the main theme for a game he's working on, which will also feature a track or two from my Alias album.

I like this dark, shadowy composition. It almost reminds me of the Unsolved Mysteries theme.

Thanks a lot for listening! I regret to say I'm unfamiliar with Unsolved Mysteries, though your comparison of its theme to mine makes it sound interesting. XD

This is fantastic! :D Very good work on the mixing, composition, and bringing the whole thing together! I hope the game lives up to how good this sounds. ♥
I have to ask, what do you use for percussion here? I know there's one loop, but are the rest done via MIDI?
    Really nice work! :D

Thanks a lot! I certainly hope the game takes off myself, especially since my understanding is it's part of a whole series of projects he's working on.

Yes, I did use one loop from Stylus RMX (the modular-synth-like percussion originally from the Distorted Reality 2 sample CD), but everything else was manually programmed from samples of samplers and drum machines only as recent as the Alesis SR16.

You're welcome! :D I'll have my fingers crossed for you. Having a game 'take off' like that can be a really awesome deal for a composer! :3 So here's hoping. I know one thing for sure -- the soundtrack's solid if it's all this good.

Aha! I've been chasing that very loop for literally DECADES. I first heard it around 2000 or so, and for years, it's popped up here and there... I never knew exactly where it came from then. You've solved a mystery that's been plaguing me for literally ages!!

The percussion is just fantastic. All of this is. :3 Once again, great work!

          Indeed. Thanks for your support.

Yep. XDD I personally first heard it in 2001 with the Myst 3 soundtrack, myself. It's not built into Stylus RMX, but Spectrasonics does also sell expansions, all of which include select loops from their prior titles, most notably Distorted Reality 2.

Of course! Keep up the good work! I've +followed you. :D

Aha! Gosh, that loop is very popular, isn't it? Myst 3, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy X-2, Samurai Jack... Probably a bunch more. It's like the Amen Break! XD!!
Hm... so what would I need to purchase to try that loop out for size, too?

            • Link

              Thanks for that!

Yep, not to mention Gone in 60 Seconds, and even a documentary with Michael Palin about the Himalayas. XDD

Any of the so-called SAGE Xpanders will provide it as bonus material. :)
