Xiao-Xing by Prismara

Xiao-Xing

I used to play City of Heroes, before some short-sighted moron axed it for a tax write-off.

Not that I'm bitter, or anything.

Anyway, I had a whole slew of characters before the end, and this is one of them.

This is Xiao-Xing. She was my Staff Fighting/Super Reflexes brute. The brute archetype had the 'Rage' game mechanic where, each time they got hit, and each time they landed a hit, it increased their damage. So, to begin with, they didn't do a whole lot of damage, but by the time you've gotten through a group of enemies, your rage bar was full, and you were mowing down mooks left and right. Brutes were very much built for running battles, and the Staff Fighting powerset was built for area effect attacks. The upshot of all this was that Xiao-Xing could, with a wooden stick, take down whole rooms full of baddies in short order. The Super Reflexes defensive powerset was mostly chosen for thematic reasons, since it wasn't my favorite, but it worked well for Xiao-Xing's waif-fu concept.

Super Reflexes suffered from the problem that it was built around dodging attacks, which meant completely ignoring the damage. That sounds great, except it was impossible to dodge every attack. I think the chance to avoid damage capped at %95, so there was always that 5% chance to get hit. And when she did, it was full damage. So she'd be charging along, mowing her way through a warehouse full of gangers armed with medieval weaponry, and then her hitpoint bar would suddenly drop to almost nothing because some lucky punk got in a good hit with a battle-axe.

Awkward.

Fortunately, Xiao-Xing was always fighting alongside my boyfriend's trident-armed minotaur, and everyone tended to pay attention to him, and not the ninety pound girl next to him.
