Trying some new markers, I couldn't get the gelly roll pens to work on it for some reason so I used white posca pens instead.

It reminds me of the really classic oldschool cartoons in look--very cute! :D

I don't know if you've ever tried these, but the "chalk markers" or liquid chalk pens. I've found that these can work on most surfaces and coloring types that gel pens get cranky with. The only drawback is--they are chalk, so it may not last forever if you don't put it in a protective sleeve or book. :)

I love the cartoons of the 80's and 90's, I grew up during the 90's but my mum would buy me random VHS tapes she would find in bargain bins so I ended up watching a lot of 80's and older cartoons on top of the 90's toons on tv.

My posca pens work pretty well but they are a bit thick, the Gelly pens are supposed to be able to go down on anything but I found it was taking way too many coats just to get the markers underneath to not show through, it could just be the paper or maybe they just don't like these markers. Gunna try the Gelly on some other papers and maybe with pencils.

I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, so I’m familiar with all the fun stuff. Plus all the reruns of Looney Tunes. :)

Or your pens might be older than their prime, gel pens settle and coagulate over time. It happens to me a lot, which was why I gave chalk markers/liquid chalk a try! :)

My aunty took my VHS collection sadly but I had a bunch of these VHS tapes that were like compilations of cartoons from all over the shop. They usually had like one or two Betty Boop or Bugs bunny cartoon mixed in but were mostly cartoons I didn't recognise.

I managed to get the Gelly roll pens to work on paper that had no markers or pencils and after warming them up a bit they went down on the markers but they wont go down on the pencils I have x.x at least I know they work and just needed a bit of scribbling to get things flowing.

Yeah. Even if you don’t like or understand old cartoons—from and artist or animators standpoint, those are cool to watch to see how things were then. Since now it’s all computerized. :)

I wonder if it may be the waxy feel of colored pencils that won’t work with the gel pens? At least you got them to work on the markers! :D
