Sketchdump from 2014: Unfinished Stuff

Ok I’m a little sad that I’ve been keeping you guys hanging on in terms of new work from me lately. Character design for me is very obsessive as you’ll observe soon, and I want to make sure any new stuff that’s going up is deserving of it.
In the meantime, I’ve looked back on some of the pictures I either didn’t choose to polish or told myself I’d come back to it later. Now that the styles drastically changed, I don’t know how many of them will get that luxury. So I thought I might as well upload them, since they might not see the light of day anywhere else. I normally say to “please hold back” with your descriptions when I know the work is bad like this. “Spare me the pain, I’m self aware” that sorta thing. This times the exception. I’m fully aware of the pain… Fire on all cylinders.

So there’s this to start… I hear so many artists say that the real key to knowing how the gears turn in an artists’ head is to look in their sketchbook. However, I’ve always told people that my sketches are poopoo on a sandwich. It’s been a long road learning to take these and make em something special, but here’s an example of what they look like on the comp straight from my head. And the on paper stuff doesn’t fare much better, for the record.

Yeah… Kinda rough on the eyes, ain’t they? A small consequence of not using a tablet is no (or at least not very reliable) pressure control. But a bigger crime is on display here: I didn’t use action lines, or in truth any tried and true technique for posing on most of these. They range from interesting to downright embarrassing here as a result. But… since the beginning of the year I’ve had a chance to pickup some of those aforementioned techniques! I’m using them in full force and I’m proud to say that my current sketches… look about as shit as they do here. PROGRESS!!! :P

Stuff like this can have a tendency to sit on my computer for months before I get back to it, but a lot of these simply never struck home and I never got that spark. So I’ll send em to the scrapheap soon, but thought I’d let people see them on the main page first.

And sorry, but marked mature cause some of these unfinished ones are borderline nudes!
