Gretchen is the chieftain of the Felzdin clan of the Odinian Isles. Like the rest of Odinia, her people are somewhat nomadic and lesser in technologies than those of their neighbors. They are, however, fierce warriors who have made profitable lives out of exploration and piracy. After a particularly notorious Odinian clan, the Gamincrom, expanded to the borders of the Felzdin and neighboring Kelkire clans, the latter two decided it would be best to quickly make good relations with them as to not bring a war between all three tribes. But during the peace talks, a Kelkire elder was found dead with a Felzdin blade in his back. Despite their claims to innocence, the Gamincrom and Kelkire quickly converged on the Felzdin and drove them out of their own territory and into the sea where they would survive solely as raiding pirates.

When they attack a port town in Azuron, Prince Magnus himself meets them in battle. While most fell somewhat easily, Gretchen proved a far more powerful and fierce opponent. She was defeated however, and when asked why she had attacked Azuron at sword point, she explained it was out of survival and that the Felzdin had no other way of life left to them. Magnus sees an oppurtunity to both ease the Felzdin's plight and strengthen his own forces and proposes an alliance with Gretchen. They may live in Azuron as long as they help protect it. Gretchen likes the prospect of fighting rather than fleeing and agrees.

Gretchen is a very feisty spirited girl who is often comically lacking in manners. She's quite brash and enjoys a good challenge, but is also quite dutiful as the leader of the Felzdin. She looks after her allies much like her own clan.
