I posted this a little while ago, but decided to pull it since i believed the finished version would be done soon thereafter.
Wellp, i haven't had a chance to poke at it yet, so here is the sketch again.
Note - in 11 years no customer has ever spoken to me directly this way. I have had profanity directed my way during a transaction, but that wasn't over a thing that i missed on a drawing. That person is barred from ever receiving art from me again. It didn't even occur to them to apologize, and they still try to speak to me and act like nothing ever happened. :p
ANYWAY i am very hard on myself while I'm working, and this doodle is about that. The way I beat myself up over making mistakes. Putting that whole disclaimer there right up front so no one mistakenly believes it is about them, or assigns a meaning that wasn't intended.
What is written: "Yeah that's good"
What I see: "This is passably mediocre"
Because short, brief comments always seem like they are wanting to leave additional opinions and details out and I am overly (self)critical.
Even though I guess you had posted this awhile ago im gonna saaaay ~ Dude I miss stuff all the time, really obvious stuff, like painfully obvious, after staring at their refs forever and still miss things! So try not to be hard on yourself =)
it was only a few weeks ago. i intended to have it all clean lined and colored, but i've gotten behind on personal type projects. and like. i always feel like such a jerk when i miss something. i always have the ref on the screen while i'm working, but i am also prone to birdbrainedness/brainfarts and will sometimes leave off the silliest, most obvious thing. and, thank you!!!
As someone who commissions artists, I try really hard to not come across like this, especially if something is off and I would like something changed. I also try to be super polite when asking for an update from artists (I'm really patient so it'll be like a month or so before I say anything, ha) as well.
I would like to say that most people are like this, but from what I keep hearing, it's sadly not the case. :<
Ah, things get missed sometimes. I have really busy refs- text heavy, so people can get a feel for my characters. It's understandable that things may get missed sometimes.
I always feel terrible when I have to ask for adjustments on my commissions :| I don't understand how some people can be so demanding. It's not like an artist deliberately leaves things out just to annoy you.

My mind does this, too.
