Galleria Imperialis - Veteran Squad

So, when there are new toys, it almost invariably means that before a Codex is released for an army that I already collect I start frantically painting more infantry so that when the shiny stuff arrives I get to 'reward' myself with something new and fresh. With a week or so before the Astra Militarum - the Imperial Guard™ - was released, this meant getting hold of a bunch of infantry that had languished unpainted for months and finish them up.

I decided to paint these guys with the Pig Iron Productions gasmask heads to match the rest of my Cadian army, as it means I have a whole platoon's worth of guys who have respirators, gasmasks or other facial coverings and gear. They're geared largely for close assault and short-range fire support, and I like the idea of a hazardous environment platoon whose job is to go barreling in to danger while the smoke from the preliminary bombardment is still settling.

The Taurox turned out to be a fantastic kit. I wasn't sure what to think of it from the images I'd seen online, and like everyone else seemed to think it'd work best as a half-track. I've actually come to quite like it. I'll get a better picture of it from the front to show off, but I wanted to get a sort of action shot of the squad dismounting and getting ready for trouble.

Edit: You should probably ignore the t-shirt in the background. Remind me to tidy up a little when I want to flash my toys around.

Those are nice looking heads, Pig Iron does nice work. I have some ODSTish ones for my space marine scouts.

Have you considered drilling out the barrels on the larger guns like bolt pistols and meltas?

The honest truth is that I'm a little too fussy to actually drill out the bigger barrels. Doesn't make sense, right? The problem is that I have kind of a cack hand when it comes to drilling - I can never seem to hit the true center of a barrel, which makes me immeasurably grumpy. Apparently the latest drill bits can drill out lasgun barrels; that's lovely, but I'll just put it through the guy's face accidentally! :D

OH OH OH. I was totally going to message you this or something just now, but I forgot.

What I found a while ago was painting a little black dot at the end of a barrel, or prefereably using a micron ink pen get's you 80% of the effect, and it's WAAAAAAAAAY easier/quicker. I couldn't be bothered to drill them all out, SCREW THAT!!! I keep putting off basing my models, to hell with this dremel anarchy.
