Painting Sneak Peaks by Keovi

Painting Sneak Peaks

Keovi

Testing to see if I can actually upload from my phone.. Almost all of my recent work has been either gouache or watercolor paintings, and since my scanner is boxed up for the move, I've been limited to taking phone snaps.

There are TONS more shots of my current work, sketches, and experiments on my art Twitter @KeoviArt, so check it out if you'd like to see more work like this! I update it pretty frequently, too :)

In the mean time.. Enjoy this preview until in able to properly scan or photograph these paintings!

This makes me want to try watercolors again! These are all gorgeous but I have to say I love the top left in blue the best. Its a long shot but would you happen to know where I could search for a good watercolor guide/tutorial? I know a lot of is practice and patience, but once I move (hehe I'm moving soon too) and I have the space to dedicate to traditional mediums I would love to try again with it.

Thank you! These are actually all gouache, but it's a brand (M Grahame) that seems much more translucent than other brands of gouache. This makes them annoying if you want to work in an opaque manner, but if you want to treat them as super-saturated watercolors, it's perfect!

As for places to start.. I'd actually recommend reading color theory and lighting books over media-specific books, generally speaking. I think it's easier to create a successful painting if you have a good grasp of lighting and color relationships first; you'll naturally discover techniques for each specific medium as you use it and experiment. One of my favorites is James Gurney's "Color and Light".

Of course, it is generally useful to have a basic understanding of a particular medium before you dive in. Believe it or not, I think Pinterest might be a good place to start for that; people there put a ridiculous amount of effort gathering and curating all sorts of super-useful art tutorials. Beyond that, I would just use good ol' Google.

Good luck! Painting is so much fun! :3

Thank you! I'm a huge pintrest fan, I can't believe I never thought to look there for this sort of thing. Color theory is something I'm in desperate need for grasping so I'll work on that first. Thank you very much for the advice! I'll read up and test things out digitally until I can sit down and use real media again :D

I was shocked when I discovered just how useful Pinterest is for art resources X)

And I hope I didn't just dissuade you from painting! As long as it's a space issue, and not me inadvertently steering you away from traditional media :s

No no! Not at all. I have been watching some schoolism live streams and had been itching to give paper another go, I'm just a little lost on how to achieve what I want. I'm kind of stuck in a 'no progress' rut and I'm looking to learn new things on in all media. I'm still very excited to break out my paint ( and pencils, pens, markers, pastels, clay and everything else I have packed away) and try something new. So a new direction is just what I needed!

Why the eye shields? Is this a particular background or story?
