coloring comparison: colored pencil vs. marker by keirajo

coloring comparison: colored pencil vs. marker

keirajo

For fun...and because Mineko Ohkami is never consistent with her characters' coloring (I referenced 7 different colored pictures of Tetheus here and took the most popular coloring I'd seen and also what color I would color him based on the B&W images...)...I decided to show everyone side-by-side what my coloring style looks like when I use colored pencils and when I use markers.

The image on the left is (using the most popular coloring I could find for the character) done with Prismacolor colored pencil and gel pen for highlights. The image on the right is (using a color scheme I would pick if I had just decided to color this character from a B&W&screentoned manga image and knowing the personality of the character) colored with Prismacolor and Copic markers, with gel pen for highlights.

Tetheus/Tecceus belongs to Mineko Ohkami/Dragon Knights.

Something about the colored pencil version just seems more organic to me. Both are awesome though!

I kinda like the colored pencil version, too...it seems like it's a lot easier to "blend soft" with them, as opposed to markers. Markers are pretty good for achieving an animation (cel-shaded) style of coloring, I think. :)

Very interesting! I think I like the marker one best as it has more impact
