pouring acrylics #1

keirajo

I have a hefty-sized pile of things to upload over the next couple of weeks. Today, I'll start with the pouring acrylic stuff I did while I was on vacation the past week or so. These were all done on Yupo ink paper, so it gives more of shiny look to it when it dries (which of course doesn't show well in the photo.......).

This was done with a simple navy blue and white choice of acrylic paints--I used a toothpick to swirl this and didn't do much rotating of the paper. :)

Wow this is beautiful, I love these kinds of liquid looking paintings

Thanks! They're a lot of fun--pouring acrylics don't dry as fast as normal acrylics. So you're able to take a lot of time to just let the paints swirl about the paper--you can tilt the paper (I usually mount them to a piece of board) at all sorts of angles and watch the colors flow around, or use utensils like a toothpick or cotton swab to move the colors around if you want to force a pattern. It's become enough of a favored craft nowadays that a lot of stores around here (even like Wal-Mart and Target, common retail stores) put them up on displays. Every place is selling pouring acrylics now!

Pouring acrylics will also look different on different papers. I used Yupo ink paper for these--which is a smooth paper (no grain), it gives the paints a really smooth and glossy look to them. I've tried on Bristol and mixed media papers, which will show the grain and not look as shiny. chuckle

That sounds really fun to do, I'll definitely try one day

It is--it can be fun and relaxing as you just watch the paint drip along the page and swirl together. :)
