classic MLP: glory

keirajo

On scrap paper recently, I drew the 4 original "My Little Pony" unicorns that were in the first batch of figures and from the first t.v. special way back in the 1980's (which most of you probably weren't even born yet! XD).

Here is Glory. Part of her design (and personality) is used as the base for the modern version's Twilight Sparkle.

MLP belongs to Hasbro. :)

It was nice to read your personal experience with mlp. I did actually watch the 80's show... in the 80's. But the memory of the show has disappeared.

Thanks! It's also nice to know someone knew them from the 80's! :)

I got into both My Little Pony and Transformers at the same time around 1983-84.........so I was able to play easily with my guy friends and my female friends as a kid. :)

My 'Ponies didn't survive the years as well as my Transformers. But even though they're color-worn now, I still love them. I have a hard time getting into the new series, but I'm basically familiar with it.

I have the original t.v. special and movie on VHS, but not the second special (Escape from Katrina). Sometimes I go back and watch them, but my movie's showing age, the color's so bright it all fades together! XD

heh yea. But actually, they wanted to use the original ponies for the reboot but they had lost the rights to their names/appearances and couldn't get them back. Hence the redesign. But they are supposed to be loosely based personality wise on the originals

Yeah...............that's a problem with Hasbro. They never think something of theirs is going to endure. A lot of Transformers got name changes over the generations, because Hasbro lost the rights to them. Rodimus has been Rodimus since...........like 2000 for that reason, I believe the only reason they can use "Hot Rod" again is because Michael Bay wanted the character for the latest movie and he has the money to help Hasbro get that license back--at least for another few years. I'm more attached to "Rodimus" over "Hot Rod" anymore anyways. XD

There was one recently that I kept trying to think what it's original name was, the new name was "Twinferno" and I was like, I KNOW this had a different name once before. Uh, it was "Sinnertwin". XD Getaway has been changed to Breakaway.............and Weirdwolf has now been called Wolfwire. Oh Hasbro........you guys are so funny. XD

I like how she has horseshoes!

The original figures had shaped under-hooves to resemble horseshoes, but I have a children's storybook from the beginning of the toys' releases, where it shows them all with golden horseshoes. I liked that touch to the characters. :)
