Yeah...I think the Diamond/Pearl series also had like a series of notices when you'd start off your game, reminding you of who you just fought and what route you're on.
In ACNL, the Mayor's Assistant has a load-up screen where she says welcome and tells you if someone new moved in or someone moved out, or if it's a holiday. :)

Yeah, I think pokemon fire red did a "last time, on pokemon!" session when you loaded a game... So you don't forget what you're doing maybe?
