Seven Pack Pantheon: Set

Farel

Next in line, in the series of images of different super-forms for the characters in my comic... which has ended, and so these ideas are never going to be used, so I'm showing them, just so people know.

Voren was a cynical and mean guy, but I did show that he wasn't 2 dimensional. He had a chance to show that he wasn't as rough as he made it look, even if he tried to hide it. There was more to be shown in the future... I wanted to explain how Voren became an orphan, and how he fears that he's got some evil powers and can curse those around him, and thus must keep others away from him. This belief being strengthened by his last name: Twardowski, which is the name of an infamous sorcerer/necromancer from Polish folklore. When he discovered his control over dark powers, around the same time that the heroes did discover their powers, he fled the orphanage, out of fear of being discovered. The fact that he awakened the power to control wind later was comforting to him, cause he didn't have to fear anyone thinking of him as demonic.

It was an interesting case of a character who for a long time acted kind of evil, to keep people at a distance and stop them from thinking that he "pure evil" so to speak.

When choosing a deity to associate with his personal growth, I went with the Egyptian God Set. The God of the desert storms and darkness. His head is pretty iconic, and the animal that it is meant to represent is unidentified, often called "Set animal", but I don't think anyone ever made a comment saying that they guess that Voren's daimon stands for Set.

Set was a chaotic God, but one that used to be respected and seen as heroic. There was an entire part of Egypt that praised him, but as time passed, he started to become demonized... Nowadays, much like Hades from the Greek myths, he's seen as evil, when originally, there was little of that to be found. However, in my head, I saw the whole chaos aspect to him, and felt like it would be a fun concept to have Set be this chaotic figure, who upon hearing that he's to be evil, just laughs and rolls with it. He enjoys the freedom to do as he pleases, no matter what others think of him.

This is something that I intended for Voren himself. I wanted him to at some point realize, that despite his attitude, he very much worries about what others think of him.... but I didn't want to do things like in the cliche: It's very common to take a mean, rough character, and reveal that they have a much softer side to them, and that they like some stuff not stereo-typically associated with tough men... things like flowers, clothes, being silly... And while I did suggest that Voren might not be all that straight at the end there... I still wanted to do a bit more. Voren was known as someone who'd cause pain to others when angry..... but the truth would be that Voren enjoys causing pain... And when he'd open up about it, he'd transform into Set, as a "Leather Daddy" with a whip!

So yeah, that was my crazy idea for Voren's evolution: Open up, and not be afraid of what others think of him..... which is likely easy to do when you're into punishing people with a whip.
