The reverberating sound is supposed to try and portray the emptiness of space and yet the drumbeats signify the passing of a meteor during a shower. The whirling lights of nearby nebulas and the dazzling shines of distant supernovas form the perfect backdrop to the passing of hundreds of meteors floating endlessly through the open galaxy.
