Idrin's Dream by Doran Eirok

Idrin's Dream

Doran Eirok

(Jan 2012) I have an over-active imagination, I've been learning electric bass guitar, I've been playing too much Rock Band 3, and I've seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World too many times. When you combine all of these things, stuff like this starts to result.

My brain has gone off and come up with this whole fun sort of story/daydream in which my anthro self has become the bass player in a small band made up of a few good friends who just wanted to have some fun and make some music together. When it turned out that other people seemed to like the sound we had things just kind of evolved from there.

The band is named Idrin's Dream, in reference to the main character of a fantasy novel which can be found here. While sometimes having a friend or two assist with keyboards or other electronic work, for the most part the band consists of what you see here; vocals, electric guitar, electric bass, and drums. Simply going off of the sounds we like, the band began by doing covers of various classic rock songs and some more modern stuff, all adapted to fit our particular style and instrumentation.

The characters from left to right are:

Doran Eirok (myself) playing an Ibanez GSR200 electric bass guitar. Eyes closed as I get lost in the groove of some driving bass line. I'm not the most incredible player ever by any means but it's enough to be able to lay down some rhythm and roots, providing a solid foundation for the music. No matter how famous the band gets or doesn't get, I'm just along for the ride to have a good time with good friends and stay mellow and friendly.

The anthro dark faerie dragoness on drums is Mist. She is mischievous, devious, fun-loving and utterly insane. Note the empty cans of energy drink by her stool; these help her go even more crazy than normal during gigs. Think Pinkie Pie with a bit of a goth-punk thing going on. She keeps things interesting.

Alec Martel is the dark-furred wolf going nuts on the electric guitar. He began his life in my brain as a character for a Werewolf: The Apocalypse roleplay that never happened. The character felt like sticking around though, and eventually moved on from being a Shadow Lord bouncer for a Garou-friendly nightclub in Chicago, and took up learning to play the guitar. His mate, a Silent Strider she-wolf who goes by DJ Silence in her solo career, sometimes does our band the odd favour of playing with us and helping us out with some electronic sounds.

Lastly, the red and black dragoness Naya is our lead vocalist, though occasionally Alec and I help out with harmonies. She's a fun character who's developed over many years and has appeared in several other drawings and one short story elsewhere in my gallery. She and Alec are the real talent of the band, and the ones who tend to make the decisions. Her voice is quite something to behold, and she's got quite a presence whether she's on stage or just walking into a room. She's one of those people you notice.
