Divergence
by Dekafox
There is now a hole
What once was there
Now is not.
The dragon cries in vain
For now he knows
It cannot be.
As he watches her go
Their roads diverge again
Never to meet?
He tries to look ahead
Down both the paths
But cannot see.
The path he must follow
He does not know
Walking on alone.
What concerns him the most:
The path she follows
Making her happy.
He knows that she cries
But cannot comfort her
Or help her.
Places that they have shared
He hopes she still
Can go see.
Whether with a new self
Or one people know
To visit friends.
Though now they feel pain
Time will heal wounds
Leaving them free.
Fate is a fickle being
Teasing with one hand
Then taking away.
They have said their goodbyes
Their lives go on
Yet still they wonder:
What will be?
Part of a series of poems I wrote when I was younger, and in a long distance relationship. More accurately, the one I wrote after we broke up because it wasn't going to work out.
