Claws in the Dark

Dekafox

This is Dusk, my Gnoll druid(originally from 4E D&D), done up all nicely by LadyKurai.

She was named for the unusual black fur she was born with, and trained to be a shaman. When the time came to take her rite of passage, consisting of a vision quest, at the end she instead manifested the shapeshifting powers of a druid, rather than the spirit-summoning that was expected.

She was swiftly cast out, as both the shaman and matriarch of her tribe were afraid she would try to overthrow them. For a time, she lived among the nearby woods, but regular animals fell too easily, and she sought more challenging prey.

Upon undertaking a second vision quest, she was sent to human lands, where she became a bounty hunter for a time, before being caught up in a greater adventure.

The original campaign I played her in several years ago never had a real end, nor was it very RP-heavy, due to having an 8-person party. I was reminded of her recently though, as I'd been trying to work out a similar concept in Pathfinder - most fantasy systems outside of 4E D&D don't have classes with "unlimited use" shapeshifting from level 1.

Still hoping to find a 4E D&D campaign in the near future to play her properly in, especially given I've added a few more quirks and bit more personality in my recent updating of her. (Did I mention she has a sweet tooth? Civilization is worth it to her for sweet rolls alone, though she'd never admit it to anyone.)

5E gnolls don't have non-homebrew stats though, and the fluff for 5E tries to rule them out so far, sadly.
