The Rooftop Circuit (Niftji) by Darkwitt

The Rooftop Circuit (Niftji)

Darkwitt

Jack leaned back as he glanced over the skyline of jintex. Neon advertisements spilling light pollution into the gloomy sky. He took a swig of his Ramune and sighed to himself. Schmoozing was not a skill set he preferred utilizing but here he was, a Holoproxy at Darkwitt's behest. Helping serve in meetings all day.

he didn't remember much of the meetings, as Darkwitt would tap directly into his implants and speak through him for a few private meetings. Once his schedule was finished, Jack was allowed to do as he liked.

So while he admired the futuristic city from halfway across the globe, he tapped his temple twice, and the circuitry installed into his body sprung to life. After a handful of holographic menus, a query was requested for Darkwitt. It was likely he wouldn't answer, he's often too busy.

But Jack was pleasantly surprised to see Darkwitt manifesting in his ocular contact lenses. Floating amongst the skyscrapers like the neon ads channeled him.

"Yes, Jack?"

"Hey." Jack folded his arms behind his head and grinned.

"....yes Jack?"

"Oh, come on, don't tell me you don't have time for a little chat."

Darkwitt frowned.

"I really, really don't."

"Then consider this a progress report." Jack leaned back in his seat and stretched lazily like the junglecat he was.

"Did you speak with the Limbic tech company like I asked?" Darkwitt crossed his arms.

"How come you couldn't do that again?"

"I was in a meeting with a hypnotherapist about project Cognizant. I needed to delegate the job to you." Darkwitt was cold and stoic, but Jack could tell from the slight defensiveness in his tone that Darkwitt was trusting him with something big.

"Well, their spinal shunt access is aces, and there's no input lag from what I tested. It'll work fine. You going to tell me what this is for?" Jack adjusted the cufflinks in his suit as he leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees.

"No."

"Not even a hint?" Jack smirked.

"It's on a need-to-know basis."

"I'm hurt! you think I don't need to know?" Jack folded his arms to match Darkwitt's posture.

"You don't." Darkwitt's eyes narrowed. He never enjoyed Jack trying to get under his skin. Least of all when he was in the middle of something.

"Okay. Tell me something about you instead."

Darkwitt gave a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Jack-"

"No, hey, it's fine. Whatever, you can keep to yourself if you want." Jack shrugged easily and tried to avert his gaze despite his eyes being literally incapable of staring at anything other than Darkwitt during their connection. "Or you could keep getting your time wasted by me as I keep pestering you about why you sent me halfway across the planet to sweet talk people instead of punch them."

Darkwitt was silent for a moment or two.

"...Fine. what do you want to know?" Darkwitt shrugged. Jack tried to contain the vibration working down his spine, but the tip of his tail betrayed his professional poker face.

"Tell me your favorite snack food."

Another gift from Jackduroi (he really enjoys spoiling me) of Jack on a mission across the world for something big.

So many advertisements, There's quite a few clues here referencing so many ideas I've developed over the last year or two. It's kind of exciting to see.
