The race of makyari ("mə-KYA-ree"), or pseudogoblins, are a gene-corrupted offshoot of the great Ork Horde. They are warlike and aggressive, yet more intelligent, thoughtful, and sanguine than their orkish cousins; they will not, for example, impatiently use each other for target practice while preparing for battle. For this and other reasons (an expansionist military policy, the ability to 'convert' Orks to their own genetic profile, etc.) they are, despite relatively small numbers, potentially a threat to the Imperium. The exact location of their homeworld(s) is presently unknown, but is conjectured to be on the far edge of the orkish wastes; and little is known of the nature of their genetic corruption, but that the entities responsible are revered in place of the usual twin deities.

Their society appears to have coalesced at the moment of genetic divergence, rather than developing organically from existing Ork culture; thus their language, art, technology and social order are all distinct, and partially organized on a psychic level. They are not known to be formally allied with the Orks, and are likely in conflict with them.

The average makyari is from 2 to 2.5 meters tall, squat-bodied and somewhat corpulent, covered in shaggy, earth-toned fur or hair. They are easily identified by their characteristic huge ears and crocodilian muzzle full of snaggled teeth or tusks, as well as their oddly beautiful opalescent eyes. All makyari are female or hermaphrodite.

Makyari are not automatically hostile to members of other races, and indeed seem curious about them. However, it is not recommended that one become involved with a makyari socially. While they can be cordial and engaging, it is telling that makyari often refer to weaker races as 'fuck-food', even those whom they like.
