Lady Shinigami by Chakat Stripedfur

"Lady Shinigami"

I look at the sky,
rosey and gold with dawn's comming.
Night; just a dream now.

Behind me; Lady Shinigami stands.
I am busy, so I notice not.
I must prepare for breakfast.

Sitting; we pray to Buddha,
thanking him for giving us another day.
Now; we begin to eat.

The food is really good.
It was my sister's turn to cook.
Standing; I gather the dishes.

Father gets ready for work.
Mother fixes and packs him a lunch,
kissing his cheek for luck.

We watch him set off.
We are so proud of our provider.
Lady Shinigami stands, watching us.

We hear a loud explosion.
Light and pain fill our senses; now.
Frantic; we struggle to escape.

Another explosion rocks the building.
Again; rubble and debris rain on us.
We never see our rescuer.

We stand on a hill,
our ghostly forms wavering in the breeze.
Below; they continue to work.

My father stands with us.
It all happened too fast to remember,
even now; the emotions fade.

Turning around; we disappear slowly.
Fading into a world of our choosing.
Behind us; Lady Shinigami stands.

*Shinigami in japanese means death.

This is just a short Haiku I wrote in memory of the events of 9/11.
