Caeldian

He will forever be my Guinea Pig. ._. I suck at titles!

Anyway, I spent good money on a very nice scanner that scans 11x17" images. Yay! But yes, recently in our drawing class we have been playing with charcoal. This last assignment we used white charcoal on black paper. I fell in love! I'll be uploading that assignment later. But for now, I ended up going out and buying white charcoal and black paper for myself. This was my first doodle. Here be a Sely, being all fwooshy like. I drew on his silver eye marking with silver gel pen, which I think turned out quite nicely. It's shiny in person. Enjoy!

Caeldians and Selious belong to me.

Thanks very much! :D It's hard to try and do value with charcoal so it was definitely an interesting first experience.

No problem =] And yeah it really is, i've never been able to really work properly with that medium, so this is deffinately an impressive first try!

Thanks again! Have you ever worked with white charcoal before? I used a white charcoal pencil, and it was definitely a different experience than the typical black charcoal bars or even pencil. I found it a lot easier and not quite as messy. :]

I have, I went to art school for a bit and had to buy the pencils, the sticks, the conte crayon. i was just horrible at it XD the pencils are less messy, but I could never get that distinctive of values.

xD Charcoal is indeed messy... but I think that's what I love about it. I love messiness! Whenever I art, or even just write, I always get marks on my hands lol. Is there a particular medium you do enjoy? Traditional or otherwise? :]

aside from digital ( mostly because yay, no needing to go and get new supplies when they run out) i really like painting with acrylics ( have a few paintings up in my gallery) colored pencils, and pastels.

(Omg, I know the feeling with the having to buy traditional supplies aaahh) I've seen some amazing stuff with acrylics. I've always had issues with colored pencils, it just doesn't look as nice. I sometimes add coloured pencils to marker-stuff but that's about it. :P And as for pastels, again, no good with them. But I do love these mediums, I think painting traditionally is difficult, but some amazing stuff can come out of it. <3

Traditional painting is...messy XD at least when I do it. There are paint stains on almost everything I own XD But its fun, even if its nothing fancy, theres nothing more cathartic then slinging paint on to a canvas. I know what you mean with colored pencils, I usually use them in conjunction with markers so it looks smoother, or I take forever to make sure everything is blended as much as possible.

Lol xD I do love those messy arts though. It just makes it more fun in my opinion. :D It's that taking forever to make sure everything is blended that I have an issue with. I commend you, I just have no patience whatsoever. x.<

The messy stuff IS fun, for sure. It just gets annoying when you're finding charcoal dust weeks after Xd Its like glitter, it never goes away lol.

Lol! Oh gawd, that reminds me of a little project my friends and I were doing. We were taking glittery tulle fabric to make these tutus (Sailormoon rave cosplay xD) on our couch... and... well... a month later we're still finding glitter lol. xD

Oh wow, thats really awesome XD Yeah glitter gets all over, my friends in highschool used to dump a bag of it in my locker every year on my birthday and the janitors would be sweeping it up for months XD

LOL That sounds so mean yet so hilarious. xD But totally worth it. I used to have this shoulder bag in high school where I put a bottle of glitter in it and forgot about it. Months later I opened it up and 'poof!', a glitter cloud appeared all over the place. From that day forth I'd occasionally forget and be attacked by the glitter cloud. Sometimes I wouldn't warn people and their reactions made me giggle.

LOL, nice XD I love peoples reactions to glitter, its always either a squeal of glee or rage. ( I used to shake our glittery Christmas decorations at my EX because it pissed him off >.>)
