Something I have had on my mind for quite some time now but finally got out x__x phew~
Well as stated people don't seem to realize how much fursona theft can hurt someone so I hope to explain it a bit with this sorta shortish text haha xD
Anyway enjoy
You're free to spread/re-post this as long as CREDIT to me is given.
So many people use other's furonas especially on Facebook that place is crawling with thieves sadly :<
And the owners of some fursonas have gotten in trouble because some people have sexually roleplayed as them so they have gotten kinda a "slut"-stamp because someone portrayed the character as a slut. :/ It's terrible and sad..
You say it like it is a bad thing. It isn't wrong to get in touch with your sexual desires. A woman isn't a "slut" for liking sex. No one is wrong for liking sex. America has some pretty messed up views on sex and sexual content.
Once upon time, I attended my very first furry convention at AnthroCon. On the third day, a guy approached me, took a good look at my character conbadges, smiled wide, moved forward to hug me (which I immediately had an issue with because I do not like suddenly being touched, even by friends), then proceeded to say "I've been looking everywhere for you! You haven't been answering my texts."
Now at that moment, several things were racing through my head. He clearly had the wrong person. I didn't give anyone my cell phone # other than close friends I was already familiar with appearance-wise, and I hadn't received any texts.
Before I could really utter a word, he talked excitedly about his room being empty for a few hours, and how he and I could bring some of our online activities to life. Woah woah woah! WTF was going on?! Long story short, it turns out someone had been impersonating me and roleplaying my character online. They told this guy they would meet him at the convention for some sexytime in their hotel room. After straightening everything out and getting our facts sorted, the guy was extremely embarrassed and apologetic. It looked like he was about to cry. I was too shaken up and disturbed to really feel sorry for him though. Unfortunately, the texts he was referring to were chat/online-based and not cellphone based, otherwise I would've LOVED to get that number. -_-
The rest of the convention was pretty much ruined for me, because all I did was worry. Would someone else approach me for sexual favors? Was my impersonator doing this for their own benefit, or were they doing this to cause me harm? All I could think about was getting back online and tracking down the fucker who set all of this up. And no, unfortunately I couldn't find anything online. It still bothers me to this day, especially when I hear rumors now and then about "Orange04 taking part in group sex parties at conventions" that I've NEVER even attended! You expect me to "get over it" and move on? Sorry, it's NOT that easy. I understand people will be stealing my work as soon as I post it online for all to see, but when they go as far as being an outright imposter who is pretending to be ME, then that's a whole new level of wrong.
Another artist here on FA had experienced something even worse. A guy at a convention walked up to her and outright KISSED her on the lips because some asshole online had stolen her character/identity. I will post the link to that story if/when I can find it, but it's yet another horrifying example of character/identity theft taken too far.

I can't tell you how many chatrooms I've been in with people using pictures they found somewhere online that aren't their character. It reflects on those people whether they know it or not, and I agree it's something that shouldn't be done.
I see these players 24/7 on Furcadia playing other people's characters all the time as sluts. Though it's an 18+ area in the game, some of the pics arent always 18+/explicit, but they never give credit to the artist in their description that they using a pic from or even get permission. Example, first person I click in the game is using art that dont belong to them (Character pic link highlight)

That is so disgusting. I have a ridiculously high tolerance for a lot of abuse, but this is probably where the line is drawn. So gross. ;'(
Do you have this on Tumblr so I can reblog directly from you? If not I'll just post it with a link to here. ♥
Yeah :'< it's sad that people have to go through this..
I have! :3 http://succubat.tumblr.com/ not very active but I usually upload mass uploads now and then xD
I know a few people who have experienced this. Sexual roleplay sites seems to have a lot of stolen 'sonas/characters on there- at least that seems to be the case for the majority of incidents I've heard of. At least a lot of these people are either found out, or they don't do enough damage to be found out.
Yeah, it's sad that people get in trouble because people can't keep their paws of what isn't theirs. I just hope this will bring some light to those who steal so they will stop and think about what they are actually doing.
Unfortunately, some people are well aware of what they are doing. I know some people tried to impersonate Rukis. A long time ago someone impersonated one of my friends and started sending me and our other friends nasty notes (I still don't know who it was, or why it happened).
But it is a good thing to let people know that this sort of thing does occur. The more people know that this sort of thing happens, the less likely someone is to fall for these fakes.

It really irks me how people will do trash like this. I came across an account once where a guy was stealing other people's art, editing them to be extremely sexually explicit, then tossing a bunch of incredibly vulgar and insulting speech bubbles in the mix. It was appalling to read the comments when an artist discovered their works and called the thief out, who proceeded to make excessively insulting replies. The whole situation was infuriating and very disappointing.
I have sen a few cases of people also stealing fursonas and pretty much trashing the character or forcing them into certain tropes. It can be so exasperating to experience; I wish there was a more efficient way to fix the problem.

Like I would get it if someone's sona was similar to someone else's but wow. Actual fursona theft is a thing? That's horrible.
