I think simply because it is intuitive to design something that "flies" with aerodynamics in mind - it's probably something we learn very early on from seeing things that fly (birds, airplanes). I also do think human brain is wired to find aerodynamic forms more "pleasant" to look at - so in sci-fi movies where spaceships often have to look "cool", they are often made sleek and streamlined even though they don't need to be.

Nicely done. I do admit though that I am wondering why people (myself included) tend to design their ships with aerodynamics in mind when in space there simply is no air and any atmospheric entry would tear a ship that size to shreds...
