Desert Bird Feeder by Aliehs Slade

Desert Bird Feeder

Or as I like to refer to this as...THE CURSED BIRD FEEDER!
=P
This is the reason I have been tied up artistically. That roadblock I kept mentioning? This is it!

Gosh this thing gave me such a terrible time...My mother in law came to visit from California last September and we had the chance to meet her new husband and he was wanting to know if I could wood burn on a bird feeder for his mother. My grandfather was awesome and put this amazing bird feeder together and then the rest was up to me to bring to life. The images were pretty much....what you see that he wanted. Everything is tied to memories and was fairly specific.

So what was the problem? Well...I agreed because...my mother in law intimidates the hell out of me LOL As most do! So I was eager to please and did not realize what I was getting myself into. When I think of wood burning I think lot of detail, so I was making this way more difficult than it had to be. She kept telling me, "Keep it simple!".

In the end, that is what I did. I had to pull myself back to keep form going more detailed and because I was in the frame of mind of detail I let myself get sorta depressed because of what was going to happen to this bird feeder. It is, and will be a working, functioning bird feeder which means staying outdoors to endure the elements, the most worrisome: the sun. Long exposure to the sun means....bleaching the burning out =(

To avoid this, my grandfather applied Spar varnish to it, the same stuff you use on boats. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best =D Really....I am just HAPPY to get this thing out of my "studio" and on its way!
