Dragon For Whiro by cooley

Dragon For Whiro

cooley

Alrighty - there's a bit of a story behind this. First and foremost, this was originally a commission for whiro [FA]. However, with my thesis looming, I had to refund Whiro and finish my writing first. (That is why the signature still says 2014.) I returned to this once-abandoned project last week, b/c I liked where I was going with it. As such, it is now my gift to Whiro, for his years of support. Literally everything about this piece is DIFFERENT in terms of process than my usual work (including use of a very limited palette).

Here is a step-by-step tutorial of this image.

Autodesk Sketchbook Pro (painting), Adobe Photoshop CS7 (lighting).

Such detail, and a great use of centrally-oriented composition. My favorite aspect is definitely the limited palette and your handling of the lighting, especially with those gorgeous reflections on the scales.
