    OH BY THE WAY THAT PERSON ON STEAM IS ME. I ADDED YOU BEFORE I ASKED BECAUSE I HAVE PERSONAL FLAWS.

    YOU COULD EVEN SAY THAT I AM A SERIOUS ITCH!

    I love your work!! The soft colors are so beautiful! I find it so difficult to use such soft colors and pastels despite an incessant desire to. I always seem to end up making my work so dark (which is normally fine since most of my work is of dark or "gothy" nature). Got any tips or tutorials you use or refer back to when working with softer colors? Love your work! <3

      wow, firstly, thank you for the lovely compliments!
      the only thing I can say as an absolute rule of thumb is not to use black or grey tones to shade ANYTHING. if you must use black, use it sparingly and never, ever blend it with other colours - it makes things look muddy and un-pastelly! pure black also doesn't occur often in nature. if you look closely at my gallery you'll find that I only ever use pure black in lineart, every other occasion where black or grey is used, it's tinted with different colours, like:

      this is the closest to pure black I have used in shading, and even that is highlighted by a dusky red colour (the hair) and neon green (the body)!

      if you're stuck with how to shade dark or dull colours in order to keep the pastel aesthetic, find yourself some photography with similar colours in and mimic what you see there, or check out other artists for inspiration!

        You're so very welcome :3

        Thank you so much! It really helps to see the use of greys with pastels aside from using black. I'm going to try doing more pastel work now! Hopefully, I can get better at it the more I try! I'll try sticking to only using black or greys in the outline/lineart if necessary and see how it all goes from there.

        Your work is definitely an inspiration to get me out of my comfort zone and try new things! :D

    • Link

      yeah, I know the feeling. between commissions, personal promo events and advertising my artbook I have no time! freelance life, right? ;-;

      it's cool that you have patron though, does it generally work nicely?

      • Link

        Yes, it's rather nice. It encourages me to share my process images and spoil my followers with content first or stuff I don't post anywhere else. I put up PSDs files as well for my practice pieces.
