When are €5,- commissions coming back? by Thaily
Never!
Honestly I've had, percentage-wise, more difficult and disrespectful customers for my €5,- commissions than for my regularly priced commissions. Logically you'd think people would be grateful for the chance at some nice, cheap art with a fast turn around and people would be on their best behavior, but the problems I've had with these people have been ridiculous. From someone wanting me to redraw 70% of it to someone who wanted me to give them a payment plan and more recently, someone who has been using their €5,- commission as a header for a Patreon that pays them $270 a month to buy commissions. I've had to post an Artists Beware on the latter guy.
I'm posting this because I get people asking about them every now and then, but I will never re-open €5,- commissions again thanks to these people. I'm already gunshy on doing freebies thanks to these obnoxious bargain hunters, and now I can't do cheapies either :/
So if you're ever wondering why artists aren't doing free/cheap work? It's because these people have ruined it for you.

I know, but I liked doing them as warm up sketches or between larger projects. I'll just warm up with my own stuff then.

Yeah I used to do freebie icons on my days off. It was fun for a while, but the number of people complaining when they didn't get one (I had limited slots) or that I never opened during a time that was convenient for them (I run on GMT-8 time)... so I just quit doing them. It wasn't worth it for me.

Yeah. They had previously tried to scam me too and kicked up a huge fuss when I told them 'no'.

This is just a drunk idea, so I apologize if its dumb or offensive, but what if you offered those commissions specifically to patreon supporters? Granted I'm only speaking for myself when I say this, but I would be inclined to believe your supports on patreon are among the ones who respect you, the effort you put into your art, and your art itself more than those bargain hunters.

Even if they weren't trying to scam you, this is just irresponsible.-
MTE: I know what it's like to not be able to afford fun things, even when they're cheap. But if you can't afford a €5,- commission, better to leave it.

Yeah, I don't blame you, your art is worth more than that anyway.
...And then there are commissioners who pay you and then never send you refs like champs, ohohoho oops

Same reason why I only did the cheapo commissions for maybe a week or so. People really do suck. Honestly, you shouldn't sell yourself short anyhow..
