R.I.P. Doug Winger by Thaily

His work was part of my introduction into the fandom as a teenager, and while some might say "Jeesh, some introduction." in regards to the nature of his work, I saw someone who enjoyed drawing. Someone who was having fun. I was drawing at that time, but not getting much support from.. Well, anyone. Neither family nor friends, everyone thought my anthros, which I was drawing before I knew about the fandom, were weird and dumb. It was sucking the enjoyment out of it and I might have stopped drawing altogether.
But Doug, Doug was drawing outrageous things and having a grand old time with it regardless of what some people might think of it. I saw his work and thought, "I wanna do that."
If not the same subject matter, I wanted to draw and have fun with it. And I do. Thank you, Doug.

I wasn't a fan of his work, but I agree. He did the thing he wanted to do and had fun, and that is what is important

it's sad to hear that such a long-standing and iconic name and presence in the fandom, one even whose art was the first I'd ever seen (surprisingly, some of his less over-the-top stuff before i found the rest), has.... there's no easy way to say it, really.
I never personally knew him, but from all I've heard, he was an amazing person... it's sad to see him go. May his memory live on.

Thank you for keeping us informed, Thaily.
