Ugh. So, the unthinkable happened. by Cani Lupine

Got into my first car accident, and it had to be with my first brand new car. And of course, it's the first time I have the insurance tell me it's a total loss.

It was dead rush hour on I66E going through Fairfax, VA. I was on my way to Silver Spring, MD for alignment training for my work. My car's bluetooth does something weird and makes my phone ask for voice commands. I use my phone only for GPS when driving. I glance down to see what's going on for just a second, then BAM, I suddenly have airbags in my face. It was seriously like a fucking nightmare come true. My baby, my pride and joy, gone in a single second. I've been told the DC Metro area now has the worst traffic in the country, and I believe it.

I always drive slow and keep a fair distance behind cars, but in rush hour, I have to stay close enough to not get cut off by people jumping into the gap. I still pay close attention. But, it seems like the exact moment I took my eyes of the road was the exact moment the lady in front of me got on the brakes, and it only took one single second for me to end up in her back bumper. :/

My front end was crumpled in, and her bumper was barely scuffed, and I'm very glad I had gap coverage through the EasyCare stuff the dealer signed me up for when I bought it. That will pay off my loan, and let me start over. I found a replacement Mirage in the color I actually want, but I really don't want to deal with loans and full insurance again. I'd rather buy a cheap Craigslist beater with cash.

I did find another 1996 Ford Aspire 5 door, like my old one, but it's goldish/champaigne colored instead of green. It has 138k miles, and my old one had 155k when I bought it. Definitely going to try for it. For now, I'm borrowing my roommate's car to get to work and back. I'll probably just plasti-dip the Aspire to make it a better color.

Today was the day I went down to go pull my aftermarket parts off the Mirage, and I had anxiety through the roof all morning, knowing I had to face the demon another time, and hoping like hell no one stole my parts.

Ugh. So, the unthinkable happened.
