The Fundraiser is over. by Ryngs

I am closing the fund raiser at this time.

If you have read my previous two journal posts, you will know that I had an accident on my bike which severally damaged my only means of transportation. I started a Fundraiser to help me replace my bike, and the accessories that were ruined. Through the donations made via Paypal, Go Fund Me, and a Few Commissions I accepted (in spite of being in the midst of an Artist Block) I have made enough to purchase my self a new bike, and the needed accessories (Pannier Rack, Bags/Baskets, Goggles, Safety Gear, etc.).

Thank you all for your concern, and generosity. I am truly humbled. I do not know how I will repay these acts of kindness in my moment of need.

If you still feel you need to make a donation, then I suggest you support my Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/Odis_Holcomb?ty=h

Or contact me and I will direct you to my Paypal, but I am no longer asking.

Again thank you all Bows

P.S. About the Bike:

Here are some pictures of the damage. I spent most of yesterday breaking down the bike, to see what was salvageable, and if there was any damage I missed on my initial inspections.

The Rim is a total loss, as it has a break in it which I suspect popped the tire:

The Rims before I took it apart:

Lost a cap on the peddle:

Its hard to see but but the fork it slight bent, as well as the handle bars. In addition to being out of alignment now. If you look closely, this is supposed to be a 90 degree angle, and the you can make out the fork tongs are off set (due to the bend):

I figured out why the rear breaks seized. The cord was pinched off at the connector with the grip, breaking the aluminum connector at the top of the adjusting bolt (the the right), and the break grip was bent:

Here the basket mount on my pannier rack has a broken weld, and look at the pannier rack, its bent:

Apparently, my goggle broke, and I didn't even realize till I picked them up to move them at home and the lens fell off:

And finally the luxury item I used to listen to music as I rode, my old Sansa mp3 player, I have a rectangle shaped bruise on my hip where it got hit in my pocket. The screen is broken, the button smashed, and the light come on, but no music plays:

Things I can't get pics of, are the peddles and the “Clacking” sound they make when spun. They never made the noise before. The front chrome wheel well welds are broken, and make a bell ring like noise every time touch the bike. The chain has lost tension, tho I can see any damage to it to the gear set.

The bike is salvageable, but it will never ride the same again unless the fork, the front wheel, peddle box, and rear break grip are replaced. Even then, no guarantees. In the end, I will be buying a new bike, and attempting to rebuild this one as a back up.

Enjoy...

The Fundraiser is over.

Wow, that is a ton of damage. Congrats! Poke yourself just to confirm you are still alive. Fixing that bike to use as a backup is courageous... I presume you can weld or know someone who can?

I'm glad to hear you were able to get a new bike! I just wish I could have helped.

So glad you got the help you needed, I did post it to other places to try and get you help since I could not donate directly myself!

nods By the time you replace or repair everything damaged on the old bicycle, it would probably be cheaper to get a new one. You should probably also replace both brake cables and the dérailleur cables and get the gears looked at, just to make sure. You might consider selling your old bicycle as-is for parts instead. You have one good rear wheel, the gears, chain, frame and seat, they should be worth something. Craigslist?

...also, I put a cancel on my signal-boost. (almost forgot)
