Maybe I will get some winter squash afterall (crossfingers/claws) by Aldin

Last week, I reported on how a woodchuck/gopher had devastated my tiny garden of winter squash.

I was making a trip to the compost pile when, lo and behold, one of the plants has pulled through (not the one that was furthest along) and has leaves again. And, the mice missed one seed and I now have a second squash sprouting, so there's hope yet that I might get some winter squash after all, but timing wise, it'll be close as to whether or not they produce any prior to frost, which here in Maine can be as early as mid-September and as late as early November. The weather can be very unpredictable here. There was frost and snow flurries in northern Maine 2 weeks ago. I've seen it snow here in south central Maine in late September. Dad saw it happen once in July back in the late 60's.

I've put chicken wire fences around both, not like that will actually stop Chucky should he/she come back.

We'll see.
