Sup, new Weasyl watchers! by Yawg

Hello, new watchers on Weasyl!

I've been trying to keep very quiet about the new development(s) over on FA (at least, I have been outside the stream. LORD HAVE I BEEN RANTING ABOUT IT IN STREAM.) But rest assured, I do have one gigantic stinky opinion about it.

As I'm sure you guys do, too; seeing as I've gotten a bunch of new watchers in the last few days without having to say a word.

Since you're here, I do encourage people to take off their shoes and scrunch their toes through the carpet here for a while; its got a very different layout than I'm sure what you've become used to over the last... er... 10 years at FA, but once you're used to how things work, it works marvelously.

New watchers might also have noticed that LoJR runs a week ahead here... so for those of you wondering why the repost sites like e621 and u-18 and exhentai (and so on) have been getting the new pages from... well, here it is.

Of particular note, I'll (helpfully) suggest everyone familiarize themselves with the Ratings Guidelines and the tagging system; Weasyl is very strict about this sort of thing, and its not as intuitive as you might assume.

That said, it's enforced. Weasyl also has a rather nice search engine and a blacklist feature that relies on everyone tagging and rating correctly.

Sup, new Weasyl watchers!

The new carpets here are fun to scrunch in my toes.
The food court is kick ass.

      Yeah!
But crap man, avoid the Swedish meatballs. Overhyped, and possibly Brussels sprouts in disguise.

That's why I always eat at the Teriyakhi grill :D. That or the Subway

I find the crapets here nice and plush. Feels so good on my footies! <3

Oh no Fluffball, run!! Terrorists have taken over Nakatomi Plaza!!

I wanted this to be professional. Efficient. Adult. Cooperative, not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way, so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life.

I love this place cause it lets you set streaming status and overall it does have a similar feel to FA ^^

The streaming thing and updated artist profile info are awesome. I think my only beef with the stream thing is that it doesn't automatically purge itself from other people's notifications when the timer has run out. I still have notifications days later for streams.

Also, still getting used to the bb code script mcthingy that Weasyl uses. But that's on me.

Weasyl's tagging system is also very convenient when moving over Fa art

I personally love the fact that this place has folders; something FA users have been pinning over for years.

They even have thumbnail options (though I personally don't use them due to my own viewers not much caring for them).

(O_o) That's not the carpet Fluffball's toes are running through.....

    Thanks Obam... uhm... Yawg!

What's going on at FA? Or is it so much drama that a MEGA LLAMA has threatened Tokyo?

    • Link

WOW. That is such an amazing question. I'll try to sum up; I'm skipping a lot of other minutia when I do so though, so feel free to ask for more info. Yes, there is always more info.

Dragoneer sold FurAffinity to a company called IMVU for an undisclosed sum without telling anyone about it. He still runs FA, but he does so as an employee at IMVU. The terms and price of the same are unknown, as he had signed an NDA and refused to speak on it.

FA is currently freaking out that he has sold FA- and the content within- lock, stock and barrel. This is not true, however, IMVU DOES own the site. And can do whatever they want to it. Monetize it. Make people pay for access to adult content. Make people pay to upload more than one picture a day. Completely shut it down if it doesn't make enough money. All of the above. And Dragoneer can't do a thing about it.

He might have had the best intentions (I understand running the site is expensive and time consuming, and he did need help ensuring the site has the support he needs* in order to make sure everything's kept up to par), but I think 'neer may have misstepped.

To give you an idea of how big a misstep... IMVU was trending #6 worldwide on Twitter. Number 6

*actually, not so true. Neer's said (recently) that the site breaks even on expenses, despite claiming at other times that he was spending his own money keeping it running. He's also turned down many, many, MANY offers for help on coding and recoding and security and updating the site.

Times like this make me glad I have no artistic skill and haven't uploaded story since before 2010...
