FA/IMVU by Visky

So...

FA has been bought by IMVU for (so far) unstated amount. Dragoneer is now an employee at IMVU (who knows who else he got on their payroll), also for unstated amount.

Said sale took place in December 2014/January 2015....and the community wasn't told about it until March.

Dragoneer is making lots of claims about what IMVU can/can't/will/won't do with FA content/data. This is a for profit company. He is an employee of said company. It's not like Dragoneer has never lied to us. (multiple times he has been caught) Dragoneer claims they have no access. I'm sorry, a for profit company not having access to something they bought...makes no sense.

They have your data. They've had access to data/content on the servers since January. They have access to Dragoneer's backups from the website, not to mention all the hardware etc.

A for profit company does not buy something unless they plan on making money on it. Dragoneer claims that FA has always been a total money sink for him, that it never makes money, always runs in the red/at a loss. This means A) they have a plan to monetize it somehow B) if they can't monetize it, they will eventually close it rather than letting it run at a loss. or C) the site is always making money and Dragoneer was lying to us all this time.

IMVU is not a furry centric company. Their furry avatars are only skins on human models with ears and tails. They've been around since 2004. If they cared about furries, they would have added the capacity for muzzles/such long long ago. So no, this is not a reach out to the furry community. The story of how Dragoneer even got in touch with them would be interesting. And no, that's not asking Dragoneer to tell the story. I'd just expect more lies at this point.

Long story short...Dragoneer just took steps to destroy a furry community that he claimed up and down that he cares deeply about, sold a website he said he'd never sell, and is now making money working on the website which he sold to a company that is only interested in increasing their bottom line.

As far as I'm concerned - Dragoneer, enjoy your moeny for however long it lasts. Hope it brings you comfort as you watch everything be destroyed.

This comes as like 0% shock to me. I'm surprised he waited this long to sell the site, in all honesty. I'm guessing it was mostly trying to find a company that would let him keep his greasy fingers on the reins after he was bought out.

It was about time I nuked my FA account anyway, it's a shitty-ass site.

This is my biggest concern. I highly doubt that Neer was making bank off of $25/month ads, so B is worst case scenario. Personally I'm not worried about ads (that's what ad blocker + script safe are for) but rather "premium" features being added in. It is my understanding that you have to pay IMVU monthly in order to upload and see adult content on their site, and their definition of adult is rather vague. Or look at Pixiv, where you need a premium account to access sorting your searches by popularity and updating submission files.
