I bought a fountain pen finally. I was originally looking for a Sailor Trident because it can write in any angle like a ball point pen. After doing some searching, I found that it was made in the 70's, had meager sales, and was discontinued in the 80's. So needless to say, I really wasn't up for paying a few hundred dollars for a collector's pen to use as my day-to-day one. Instead, I bought a Pilot Penmanship, a bottle of black carbon ink, and a Pilot piston-converter from Jetpens. They even have a series of blog posts on picking your first fountain pen, it was super useful!
So after a few days with this thing, I find that I REALLY LIKE IT. I was a fan of inking stuff before (hence my $80 sable hair inking brush) but this is totally different. I have been making inking headshots like mad because of it. https://instagram.com/p/0Ib3kKLnvU/ Look familiar? I even have probably another five in my sketchbook of other people's characters and mine. You have no idea how much I am geeking out about this thing. AND ITS A CHEAP AS HELL FOUNTAIN PEN, TOO. GAHHH
So that's me. I'm tempted to do a couple freebie headshots in the future. Maybe my next livestream if I can get the webcam to work as I want it to. What about you all? Anything interesting you finally got your hands on recently? Wanna share the story? I probably spent a few hours researching my pen before I finally bought something. It was a really fun experience ^^
Well you never have to press at all unless the ink stops flowing (and you only need to press lightly to spread the tongs slightly). So that may help somewhat :)
Ball point pens require you to press down somewhat just to get the ball to roll properly for comparison.
In the end though, I am a total inking dork. So I will speak highly of an inking tool pretty much forever X3

I'm just happy the weather got warm so I can open my windows and paint figures again. Now I can finally finish Mao's figure! :)
I've always been afraid to try a fountain pen...since my hands are never in good shape (I sometimes press too hard because of my grip and arthritis). Is it really that awesome to use one? :)
